Queensland Camp

After we arrived in Cairns, the first activity on the north Queensland camp was going to the aquarium, where we saw colourful fish, sharks and massive stingrays.

On the second day we took a boat to fitzroy island, the environment was stunning, it had beautiful aqua water, filled with coral and an array of fish. We were able to visit a turtle hospital, where we met a green turtle named Rein.

After this, we went snorkelling and then had free time to roam the island. We also got to travel on a glass bottom boat, to give us a view of the corals and fish from above. We then had an aboriginal guide who taught us about hunting and music on Fitzroy island, after his talk, we got the opportunity to hear him play the Yidaki.

Day three was filled with so many fun activities. We started by taking a scenic train across the heritage listed rainforest, the views were amazing and we all enjoyed listening to music whilst watching the waterfalls and forest zoom past the vintage windows of the train. After this, we had the opportunity to explore a butterfly sanctuary, and learn about the different types of moths and butterflies that inhabit australia. This was followed by an amazing trip across the rainforest on a gondola skyrail, which gave us an awesome view of the wildlife and trees.

The next activity was my personal favourite, which was the wildlife dome. Where we completed a high ropes course, and then got to walk around the dome while lots of different animals were right beside us. I befriended a few parrots who enjoyed sitting on my head. The day ended with us going to the night market for dinner.

On day four, we travelled to the Mossman gorge, where we were able to walk around the national park and take photos of the river and nature. Then we drove to the daintree discovery centre, where we saw lots of animals and trees and learnt more about the daintree forest. This was followed by a visit to an ice cream shop where we were able to try their unique flavours and have a rest.

Day five was another personal favourite, where we got to visit Hartley's crocodile park, in which we saw massive crocodiles and got to hold a snake and a baby crocodile. We also got to pet wallabies and met a cassowary named Adam.

Overall, the north Queensland camp was an amazing experience, and one of my favourite camps I have ever been on. The activities were so much fun and being able to complete them with my friends was so wonderful. I really enjoyed learning about the wildlife of cairns and being able to participate in activities that I would never be able to complete at home.
