Head of Campus

Greetings, Preshil community!

As we find ourselves at the midpoint of the term, it's the perfect time to reflect on the exciting events and accomplishments that have shaped the beginning of our academic journey together.

Memorable Camp Experiences:

Our fortunate students have recently experienced time away from the classroom environment on camp. The Year 9 students ventured into the Northern Territory at the end of Term 2 while all students embarked on an unforgettable adventure during the camp week recently. The laughter, camaraderie, and shared moments created lasting memories, fostering a sense of unity and teamwork among our students. These experiences outside the classroom are invaluable in promoting personal growth, independence, and a deeper understanding of the world around us. Please read about these camps in this edition.

Empowering Year 10 Personal Project Exhibition:

Our Year 10 students have once again demonstrated their creativity, dedication, and critical thinking skills through their outstanding Personal Project exhibition. These projects are a testament to their passion and curiosity, as they tackled a diverse range of topics and presented their findings with confidence and pride. We commend them for their hard work and look forward to seeing how these projects continue to shape their learning journey.

Welcoming a New Member to Our Preshil Family:

In the midst of our bustling start to the term, we are thrilled to share the heartwarming news of one of our staff members welcoming a new baby into their lives. We extend our warmest congratulations and best wishes to them as they embark on this joyous and transformative journey of parenthood. It's moments like these that remind us of the wonderful community we are a part of, where we support and celebrate one another's milestones.

Celebrating Triumphs in the World of Debating:

I am delighted to shine a spotlight on the wonderful achievements of our dedicated debaters, whose hard work, passion, and unwavering dedication have led them to exceptional successes in the debating arena. Debating is more than just a competition; it is a platform that fosters intellectual growth, effective communication, and the development of critical thinking skills. Our students' achievements stand as a testament to their ability to articulate and defend their ideas, engage in respectful discourse, and exhibit sportsmanship.

Year 11 Debating Team:

Our Year 11 debating team has emerged as an undefeated force in the DAV Debating competition. Their eloquence, critical thinking, and teamwork have propelled them to victory in each round, marking a significant milestone in their debating journey. With their sights set high, they are now gearing up to face the next challenge on their path: the regional championship rounds. We commend their remarkable accomplishments thus far and eagerly anticipate their continued success as they represent [School Name] in the upcoming debates.

Year 9 Debating Team:

Our Year 9 debating team has been making impressive strides, showcasing their resilience and commitment as they engage in spirited debates. With each match, they have not only honed their rhetorical skills but also gained invaluable insights and knowledge. Their enthusiasm, willingness to learn, and dedication to improvement have contributed to their numerous wins and an abundance of lessons learned. We are proud of their progress and look forward to witnessing their growth in the debates that lie ahead. Please read about their experiences in this issue.

Upcoming Progress Reports and Three Way Conferences:

As we enter the second half of the term, we eagerly anticipate the opportunity to connect with our families and share the progress our students have made. Progress Reports will be sent out soon, followed by our highly anticipated Three Way Conferences on Wednesday, August 23rd, from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and Thursday, August 31st, from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm. These conferences provide a valuable platform for open communication between students, parents, and teachers, fostering a collaborative environment that nurtures growth and success.

Communication: A Cornerstone of Learning:

Communication is not only a central concept within the IB framework but also a skill that is cultivated and cherished at Preshil. It is both an essential aspect of the Approaches to Learning (ATL) program and a key attribute of the IB learner profile. This term, our focus across all Middle Years Programme (MYP) units of work is Communication. Students will explore and experiment with various methods of communication, gaining insights into this fundamental skill through the lenses of different disciplines. We are excited to witness their growth as effective communicators and eagerly anticipate sharing their progress with you.

As we continue to embrace the challenges and triumphs of the term, let's remember that communication is the thread that binds us together, enabling us to share, collaborate, and learn from one another. Stay tuned for updates on our students' communication journey and other exciting developments as we move forward.
