New Year, New Office!
A work in progress...
Over the holidays the office and toilets were refurbished. The old brick toilets are now tiled, upgraded and in use along with the current toilets.
The office has a new design to make it more practical and to use the space more fully.
A big thank you to all staff who have been moving things, cleaning, re-organising and generally putting everything back together. A huge thank you to Rusty who did the work of two removalists when he kindly relocated some very heavy cupboards.
This term K123 will be working on a Beatrix Potter (author of the Peter Rabbit series) theme in English. This will involve creative writing, oral story telling and listening to stories.
Maths for both classes will include studies of Number (e.g. counting, grouping, adding and subtracting) Measurement (e.g. time, length and area) and Space (e.g. 2D and 3D shapes). The senior class have started graded Mental Maths and are currently looking at number lines in addition and subtraction.
Both classes will participate in a Phonemic Awareness programme, which teaches all about sounds, letter groups, words and sentences in a consistent and explicit manner. This will promote better spelling, reading and writing. Years One to Six will also do Spelling, with list words to learn and related activities.
Both classes participate in guided writing and reading. Each child in the senior class will read to someone on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday through Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) sessions or in guided reading.
Space is the Science theme across the school and the senior class are also studying Madagascar (the island not the movie...) in Geography.
Wellbeing is a focus this term and Mrs Cecil takes the whole school for these sessions. She has been leading the children in discussions stimulated by listening to podcasts and there has been much vibrant debate and thought!
We will be running Volleyball this term each Monday afternoon and have secured the services of a qualified coach to teach the children. Each Friday afternoon we will be running Gymnastics sessions with the North Coast Gymnastics team. This will all be provided at no cost to parents.
This Thursday 17th February is the Small Schools Swimming Carnival in Lismore. A note went out on Thursday with information about this day. School will run as normal on that day but some children from our school may attend the carnival, if parents wish to transport them to Lismore Pool. There will be no spectators allowed, sadly. Miss Fish and Donna will be supervising on the day.
Last week Miss Fish made play dough with Kindy, Years 1, 2 and 3. They had a great time and were very proud of the results!
