Week 2 Term 1

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to Week 2 we have had a great start to our first week of school. It was wonderful to see all the children back at school with happy faces, eager to reconnect with their friends smiling, learning and having fun. The Foundation students have settled in very quickly attending two assemblies! Welcome to all the new families and thank you for trusting us with your child.

A special welcome to students and their families who have joined St Fidelis from other schools - Evan, Pete, (Year 6) Anderson, Makayla and Dylan (Year 3) to our community. We hope you enjoy being part of the St Fidelis community.

2022 Learning Focus

At St Fidelis, we have a strong focus on Literacy, Numeracy and Wellbeing. This year we have placed a very strong emphasis on ensuring that Literacy and Numeracy are our priority by directing resources to this area. The employment of additional Learning Support Officers, highly skilled Literacy and Numeracy Leaders and a Speech Therapist (focus on literacy and oral language) are some ways we are continuing to ensure that students are tracked, monitored and and supported in these areas.

Wellbeing

Our children’s wellbeing continues to be our priority. We want to support our children to be strong resilient people especially during these uncertain times. This year we have partnered with The Resilience Project Team. The Resilience Project’s Partnership School Program supports the wellbeing of the whole school community and builds a positive school culture. We anticipate and look forward to remaining a partnership school for many years to come.

The Resilience Project program:

  • Engages STAFF through professional development presentations, teamed with resources and activities, which develop a consistent language and approach.
  • Inspires STUDENTS across all year levels through the delivery of highly engaging presentations.
  • Empowers PARENTS AND CARERS with presentations that provide practical strategies to help build their children’s resilience, and improve their own wellbeing.
  • Supports the ongoing practise of mental health strategies in the classroom.

In the coming weeks, Sally our Wellbeing leader, will inform the community when and how the program will begin.

We are also fortunate to continue our partnership with ISN (Institute for Social Neuroscience) Psychology. ISN have provided us with Psychologists over the past two years to work with our students and their families. This year we welcome two new Phycologists. Eusu Sahin, working on Tuesdays and Fridays and Rachel Lorenzo, working Mondays and Tuesdays.

Please speak to your child’s teachers if you have any concerns or contact Sally Lentini Wellbeing Leader. slentini@sfmoreland.catholic.edu.au

Family Calendar of Events

Each week you can view important dates on our school calendar in the DATES TO REMEMBER section.  A comprehensive Family calendar can also be found on our website www.sfmoreland.catholic.edu.au on the home page under the calendar and events tab.

Parent/Teacher Getting to Know You meetings

On Wednesday February 16, the students will be dismissed at 1:00pm in order to have the Parent/Teacher Getting to Know You meetings. The conversations will begin at 1:30pm and you can book your time through the online booking portal using the event code Bja5d    www.schoolinterviews.com.au

BOOKINGS OPEN on Tuesday 8th February at 4.00 p.m.

BOOKINGS CLOSE on Tuesday 15th February at 3.30 p.m.

The purpose of these conversations is for you to meet your child’s teacher and discuss their strengths, challenges and any other points of interest or concern that may be necessary for the teacher to know. This is another way for the teachers to add to your child’s profile as they get to know your child during the first months of school. In preparation for the conversations, a questionnaire will be sent home with your child this week. Can you please answer a few questions about your child and return to school before Monday 14 of February?

TheirCare” will be open for any families that require afterschool care commencing 1:00pm.

Beginning Of The Year Whole School Mass- CANCELLED

The Beginning of the Year Whole School Mass scheduled for this Friday has been cancelled until further notice.  Indoor large school gatherings are still not permitted for schools. We will reschedule this important event later in the term. However, each Friday we continue to gather as a community outdoors to engage in prayer. Prayer reflects one way that we show our Catholic identity and connection as a school faith community.

Thank you to the Hude Family

Special thank you to the Hude Family for a generous donation to the school. We will use the donation to go towards the purchase a 3D printer for the STEM INNOVATION Space. Our students are extremely fortunate to have such generous community. All students from Foundation to Year 6 will have the opportunity to engage with the 3D Printer over the course of the year.

Working Bee Thank you, Thank you ,Thank you

A huge thank you to the helpers and welcome to our new parents in our community who assisted with the Working Bee on Saturday. Thank you to Justin Hude, Jamie Soares, Dion Denes, Chris Archibald, Neil Watson, Alycia Marsico, Angela Favero, Vira Pirrotta & Leanne Weckowski.Due to COVID we had limited our numbers however, the work they all did was amazing.

We managed to shift any excess furniture into our shipping container, move tables to outdoor learning areas, clear the stairwell of equipment that belongs in our new sheds and create some learning play areas with equipment for the students. There was lots of moving and I am sure lots of tired bodies on Saturday night. Thank you again for your generosity and time.

Thank you Dion Denes for donating the new Basketball nets, they look great and the children will certainly enjoy them.

Thank you once again to Damian and Anastasia from THE VILLAGE BAKERY for their generosity once again donating a delicious breakfast (it’s worth volunteering for this magnificent breakfast)

What a wonderful community we have at St Fidelis. We are all here for each other and your children.

Save the date for Working Bee number 2 - MARCH 19

Working Bee number two is scheduled for Saturday March 19. It is the day before our School Open Day to the community. The purpose for this day will be to ensure our school is looking its best for the community as they come to visit all the facilities we have to offer and the learning opportunities that the children have at school. More information about both events to come.

A COVID Reminder:

WHO DO I NOTIFY IF MY CHILD TESTS POSTIVE?

  • If a child receives a positive test result at any time, parents must report this through the Department of Health via (COVID-19 Positive Rapid Antigen Test Self-Reporting)  or via the coronavirus hotline at 1800 675 398
  • Parents must also report a positive result to the school immediately by emailing the principal mwatson@sfmoreland.catholic.edu.au

Directives to schools are constantly changing so please be patient if we are unable to answer your questions of concern immediately. We will endeavor to get back to you as soon as we can.

Do you know a Painter?

If anyone in our community knows of a good, reliable painter (must have an ABN)  that is willing to work on a weekend and give me a quote for a small job at school, can you please call the office and leave the administration staff their details. Thank you.
