Boarding School News

Dear Boarding Parents and Caregivers,

All staff in the Boarding House are looking forward to welcoming all boarders back for Term 1.

Last week was spent attending many meetings with Independent Schools of Queensland and the Australian Boarding School Association, who met with State and Federal levels of government to ascertain how boarding schools will manage the return of boarders.  I can advise we have opened our doors safely to boarders on Monday 24 January.

Many Year 11 and 12 students are returning throughout this week in readiness for the commencement of remote learning on Thursday, with many other students continuing to return through to Monday 31 January.  Throughout remote learning, staff will be in-house throughout the day to supervise and assist the girls.

Thank you to the many families who have advised us of their daughter’s return date. Please complete and send any outstanding boarding forms to  boarding@clayfield.qld.edu.au and ensure your daughter is school-ready with no fake tans, no acrylic nails, no false eyelashes, one natural coloured hair and only one piercing in each ear lobe before her return.

Year 7 are not permitted to take their mobile phones to school.  There is no requirement for them throughout the school day as Year 7 students are accompanied by staff or Year 12 students to and from all activities.  They will be held safely for them in the Boarding House until they return at the end of the school day.  For Term 1, Year 8 students will also leave their phones in the Boarding House.

It may not be the start of the year we thought we were going to have, but I can assure you, all precautions have been taken to create a healthy and safe environment for your daughter. The attached COVID Management Strategy has been prepared to inform you of the directives in place from Monday 24 January.

Boarding House staff are here to assist however we can by accompanying your daughter on shopping trips for any essentials she was unable to travel with such as linen, school shoes and toiletries.  We will also assist with uniforms and textbooks if required.

I have the pleasure of advising you of our Boarding House Year Level Supervisors and other contact staff for 2022:

  • Head of Year 7 & 8 – Mrs Magdel Langhein (Upper McDonald Wing – twin rooms)
  • Head of Year 9 & 10 – Mrs Amita Kapur (Year 9 Lower McDonald Wing – twin rooms; Year 10 Newman Wing – twin rooms)
  • Head of Year 11 & 12 – Mrs Judy Hay (Year 11 Newman Wing – single rooms; Year 12 Aitken Wing – single rooms)
  • Weekend Supervisor – Ms Leean King

Please continue to contact me if you have any queries or concerns with the safe return of your daughter to boarding for 2022.
