BUILDING CHARACTER AND RESILIENCE

APPRECIATION

Appreciation is the ability to see the good in those around you and openly express gratitude.  People who regularly do this can approach situations and hardship with empathy and are able to see positive solutions instead of just problems.   When we are grateful and choose to focus on others, we are happier.   We stop complaining when we see how fortunate we are and look to appreciate not only what others do for us, but the differences that make us stronger as a community.

Practicing Appreciation means focussing on what we have, not what we are missing.

Ask yourself.

1. Who was the last person I said thank you to?  Did I accompany the words with an act of        appreciation?

2.  Review and recogonise where you have fallen short to be appreciative today.

3.  What are 3 things in my life right now that I am thankful for?

"Appreciation is a wonderful thing.  It makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well" - Voltaire
