Religion and Parish News

Welcome back to 2022 at St Mary’s College.

This year, there is going to be a strong focus on learning about the Mercy tradition of our college. We began with a staff liturgy on the Mercy Value of Service during the professional development days at the beginning of the school year.

During the Living Well day with the students we looked at the charisms of each of the houses, and in PACC Groups students will be working through a project called  “Together in Mercy” over the course of Terms 1 and 2.

Our prayer for this month’s newsletter is the prayer that students will pray when we begin the project.

Lord,

You sent your Son to serve.

You sent him to teach us to live in service to others.

Let your Spirit awaken in us the same spirit of service.

Open our eyes, hearts and hands to the needs of all.

Inspire our learning today and every day,

as we look to the Mercy tradition as our example.

May we live our lives humbly, compassionately and faithfully

And always be open to your Spirit in our everyday lives.

Amen.

Mass Celebrating Consecrated Life

It was my privilege to attend a special Mass of thanksgiving for men and women of Consecrated Life in St Joseph’s Church on Tuesday, February 15. It was an opportunity to acknowledge the commitment our religious have made in the parishes throughout the Diocese. A highlight was listening to the religious men and women singing the Salve Regina in Latin.

It was also a great occasion to catch up with former Parish Priests of St Joseph’s Parish Gunnedah: Fr Jo Adriano, Fr Curran, Fr Vince and Fr McHugh as well as our very own much loved Sisters of Mercy - Sr Christine, Sr Gabrielle and Sr Regina.

2022 Opening School Mass

Mass will be held for students and staff on Friday 25 February at 9.30 am.

During this Mass we will induct our 2022 school leadership.

Unfortunately, Parents are not permitted to attend, however, we will be recording the Mass and will make this available to parents during the following week.
