NUMERACY - Colleen Monaghan
Last Wednesday, Year 1/2 students participated in the Junior Maths Games Day. They engaged in a variety of different games that required them to think mathematically using reasoning and problem-solving skills. They broke off into teams and challenged each other throughout three rounds across the day.
As mathematicians, theystarted round one with a rotation of activities that explored shapes, time, number, measurement and addition. In round two they were challenged in one-on-one problem solving games such as tic-tac-toe, connect four, checkers and paddocks. The last challenge was after lunch.
As critical thinkers and collaborators, they worked as teams to solve open-ended problems. At the end of the day, points were tallied across the whole day and the winning team was…Nefeli, Orlando, Felix and Veronica. Congratulations to all and thank you to the staff and parent helpers.
