YEAR 3 - 6 News
The 3-6’s are taking part in Basketball Clinics each week learning the rules of the game, along with the skills and different of types games. This will help prepare the Year 3 and 4’s for Hoop time, and the coaches have been excellent support and mentor for the students.
R U OK?Day was Thursday 8 September 2022. Students were taught the importance of this day and why it is celebrated. This national day is when we remind Australians that every day is the day to ask, 'Are you OK?' and start a meaningful conversation whenever they spot the signs that someone they care about might be struggling. Here is some of the posters that students designed, that our showcased in our hallway.
Year 3-6 News
It’s been a very ‘sporty’ term 3 for all our year 3-6 students.
We began the term with practicing our swings and putting with Golf clinics, followed by tennis clinics, basketball clinics and finished off the term with athletics training in both track and field events. This enabled us to select a school athletics squad to represent Windsor PS at the Southport District Carnival last week at the athletics track in Albert Park.
Last Wednesday week, twenty-nine students represented the school in many track (running) events such as the 100m, 200m 800m, 1500m, hurdles and relay events. Field events included long jump, triple jump, shot put, discus and high jump.
With limited preparation it was wonderful to see all students give their best efforts in their selected events. For many of our students this was their first visit to an athletics track and their first attempt in many of the events. This will hold them in good stead for next years carnival, having already experienced this year.
On the day, we had some outstanding results.
Congratulations to both Chontelle (LS9) and Dylan (LS9) who will both represent the Southport District at the Division Athletics Carnival in term 4.
Chontelle finished 1st in both the 12/13-year-old girls in the 800m and 1500m.
Dylan finished 1st in the 12/13-year-old Hurdles and 2nd in the triple jump.
Jag (LS9) finished 3rd in the 12/13-year-old boys 200m.
Seb (LS7) finished 2nd in the 9/10-year-old boys 200m
This week, all year 3-4 students participated in the District Hoop Time Basketball competition at MSAC. Prior to the competition all students as part of their PE program participated in a term of basketball skills facilitated by CHASE Basketball. Each week, the students were taught skills such as the correct way of bouncing the basketball ball, passing, and shooting. The rules of basketball were also taught.
The culmination of all the above came together last Monday, when the students were selected into four teams (Windsor Warriors, Windsor Wolves, Windsor Wasps and Windsor Waves) and each team played 4 games against other schools in a round robin format. The highlight of the day was the enthusiasm of all students and more importantly showcasing the skills they had learnt through the basketball clinics throughout the term.
The year 5/6 Hoop Time Competition which was to also be held in term 3 was postponed to term 4. A new date has yet to be confirmed.
Next term, students have more gala days to look forward too. Sports and dates will be confirmed in the first few weeks of term 4. The whole school swimming program will also be held late in November.
Hip Hop
From the beginning of this term, all students have had weekly Hip Hop dancing lessons. Wednesday was a very popular day! Throughout the term students have danced and moved to several hip-hop tunes and the culmination of all these came to fruition during their performance in front of the whole school, staff and parents on Wednesday.
Everyone in attendance thoroughly enjoyed all classes performances.
The program has been a huge success and all students would like this to continue next year. A HUGE THANK YOU TO LAURA FROM ASPA (AUSTRALIAN SCHOOL OFF PERFORMING ARTS) FOE HER ENTHUSIASM, CHOREOGRAPHING AND RAPPORT WITH THE STUDENTS.
