English News

Congratulations to Ms Monette Mason who has been appointed as a Permanent English teacher at Glen Innes High. We are very happy to have her permanently onboard.
12 English Standard
In preparation for their HSC Exams, students have been manipulating their writing in a range of text types. The students had an interesting time creating their texts and I was incredibly impressed with some of their pieces of work. Here are some examples from Tyler Cubis.
Poem:
A hall
a place
a wall
in which we see
those who may sit in glee.
First is blue
Colour that means so much, but nothing
sticks like blue.
For those who are bluffing
in peace we sit
in peace we rise
in peace we may take off our disguise.
in a hall
in a place
near a wall
and a case.
In the style of Sylvia Plath:
Liquid mercury that is green and liquid like the ocean. A boy on the water. A parent. A father... no a sperm donor. One filled with hate, rage, anger, and greed. Emotional contempt and guilt. Fear and rage. The water has spoken.
Curriculum Reform
In the next few years, all curriculum content will be reformed across NSW. As part of this reform, some subject areas will be User Testing concepts for the new curriculum. In English, we are currently expanding on our immersion of the importance of reading. We have asked staff and students to record a short book review of about 1 minute. I would like to extend this invitation to community members. These reviews are played each Monday morning during CLaN to students. The idea is to show students that reading is something we all should be doing and that we all enjoy. If you have recently finished reading a good book, please record a short book review outlining the basic plot and make a recommendation for a suitable reading age and send it to the school.
Book Week Dress Up
Students and staff were encouraged to dress up for Book Week. The English faculty got into the spirit of things inspired by Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. Thanks to everyone who dressed up and participated.
12 English Standard Aurora Study Day
On Wednesday 31st August, Year 12 English Standard students participated in an Aurora study day gaining insight into Modules studied for their HSC. We hope they found it beneficial to their HSC study preparation which coincidentally starts exactly 6 weeks from the study day.
My Future, My Culture, My Way
Did you know there are five different pathways for you to finish your HSC, depending on your individual needs? My Future, My Culture, My Way is helping Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, their parents, carers, and communities excel on the HSC journey.
Thank you
