5/6 News

It has been an amazing time in the senior school with so many activities for our students to enjoy. As great role models, the students' behaviour and participation on our athletics day was fantastic.  It was great to hear the House chants created so proudly by the students. When we think of this cohort of students, the over-riding theme has been built on 'inclusiveness' i.e. everyone is valued, considered and part of something quite special. We are most proud of how our students are defining their final years at Sacred Heart. As always, we thank you for your support and overwhelming sense of partnership. It really makes our role such a joy when working with your child/ren.

MATHS WEEK

The students have just finished looking at Measurement and Geometry in class with a focus on Time and Mass. It was amazing to see their growth and the connections to real-life situations. This week, we have  been focusing on their fractions and decimals. The students times tables are a really important part in knowing their fractions, so we continue to encourage this reinforcement at home.  In the last few weeks of term, our maths theme will be AFL football as we gear up for our footy day.

ENGLISH - Public Speaking Graduation

In our public speaking program the students have worked on their 'passion' speeches. It has been wonderful to see their growing confidence with this invaluable program. Sandra does a super job exposing the students to variety of roles throughout e.g. MC, judge etc...

We have just finished Session 6 of the program and would like to invite the parents to attend the Graduation Celebration Classes and witness their improved skills. By now the students have been advised which roles they have been assigned, so please check with your child what they will be doing. We will also be presenting certificates and trophies during this time.   Please note the following times below:

Inquiry - Migration  Story

The students have been creating a migration story that we will be performing for parents on the last Thursday of term, 15th of September at 9am. The students are creating a script and scenes looking at Australia's migration story.  From the time of our indigenous people, to the convicts, gold rush and the ten pound poms, this will hopefully provide a snapshot. The students have really enjoyed learning about this topic and have giving some amazing insight into the push and pull factors that attract people in coming to Australia. We would love as many of you to come as possible.

Book Parade by Adam Humphrey, Ginger Thurlow and Kate Hyde

This year's book week was exciting and eventful as ever. We all enjoyed dressing up as our favourite characters, from novels to picture books, and it was great to see everyone getting involved. We celebrated our tremendous love for reading. We shared and learned more about our friends' best loved, iconic stories and texts.

The theme was “dreaming with eyes open” everyone dressed up and looked fabulous. A lot of work was put into these dress ups and it paid off because we were the coolest looking school going around. It was incredible  to see everyone dress up and add their own touch to their already amazing costumes.

Everyone got to show their different jazzy costumes in a  book parade with the whole school. Everyone had a bucket load of fun showing their favourite book characters with everyone who dressed from the same book. It was amazing to see the variety of costumes and books to show the various literature favourites.

It was a great day  beginning to end, and overall an amazing experience for the whole school to enjoy. It was exciting from the moment we stepped into the classroom on Monday, to the book parade on Wednesday. It is another great week and we can definitely say that next year will be even better.

Athletics Day by Amy Scott and  Lachie Angus

Last week on Tuesday we had the school athletics day. This year the year 6s got to name the houses.

Blue house was named Cookie Monsters, Red was the Red Rippers, Green was called the Frogs and Yellow house was Minions. The activity’s ran were 800m,100m,  the long jump, triple jump, shot put, vortex, the boot toss, and the hat and cape race.

At the end of every athletic’s carnival the years 6s versed the teachers in a 100 metre relay, this was actually the first year the year 6s beat the teachers.

Everyone had fun and tried their hardest but in the end the results were:

1st Red

2nd Green

3rd Blue

4th Yellow

Finally, a big thank you to Mr T for organising the whole day, and running all the fun events on the day.
