Welcome to our college community

This week we introduce you to Deborah Cooper who has taken on the role of Risk and Compliance Officer at St Anne's College.

Deborah Cooper

My name is Deborah Cooper, and I am the new Risk and Compliance Officer. I moved to Shepparton 22 years ago, with my husband and two children (who are now grown-up), plus a dog and a cat. The children have moved back to Melbourne and the pets have long gone. As to date, we now have two grandchildren, plus two black Labrador-Collie-cross male dogs, who love to eat my garden and think they are inside dogs!

In my previous position, I worked in a high-risk industry, with a company that operates several orchards, a packhouse, a transport company, cold chain storage divisions and engineering team who are involved in various types of high-risk work including building. I was responsible for driving the compliance which included food safety, quality, customer, OHS and legislative requirements, as well as running the Seasonal Worker Program, which engaged Pacific Islanders for work requirements. My role was challenging but also rewarding. I absolutely loved working with the different variety of people with different ethnic and educational backgrounds and supported them in their working environment where I could.

Working in the educational field is totally new to me but in many ways is the same. I am looking forward to building up new relationships within the college community and accepting the new challenges it brings. One of these is writing about myself! 

On a personal note, I am a craft tragic as I love knitting, sewing and book-scrapping. I am also a very amateur photographer. I practise yoga and meditation, love gardening (and yelling at the dogs when they try to help!), bike-riding and bush walks. All topped off by food and wine with family and friends. Just to let you know, I am an expert in none of these things but enjoy them all.
