From the Principal

Benvenuto - Welcome

Athletics Carnival

On Thursday we held our annual Athletics Carnival. Whilst the weather was not perfect, that did not stop the fun and participation by the students and staff throughout the day. Montessori House was again crowned the winner of the competition, followed by a close second to Cooper House. Students and staff were dressed in their house colours to get into the spirit of the day. For coverage of the Athletics Carnival please see the Sports News page in this edition of il giornale.

Learning Environments Australia visit

On Friday we hosted a visit by almost 40 architects from across Victoria. The Learning Environments Australia (Victoria Chapter) was on tour visiting St Anne’s College, Greater Shepparton Secondary College and Shepparton Art Museum to see examples of contemporary educational settings. Students from Year 3 and Year 10 lead the tours around the college, speaking to the participants about their experience of the learning environment at St Anne’s College. Feedback from the participants was very complimentary of the ‘feel’ of the college as a welcoming community environment. Our tour guides were outstanding representatives of the college.

Attendance and permissions

Just a reminder to all parents and carers the importance of attending to any permissions that come through PAM. Legally we require permission for students to attend events outside of the college. If permissions are not granted, students are not able to participate in the rich experiences of camps and excursions. Also related to this is the ongoing importance of ensuring that if your child is absent from school, we are required to record a reasonable explanation as to why they are absent. This can be done on the day of absence through PAM or by contacting the college by phone or email.

The Plenary Council

You may have noted that I have made reference to the Fifth Plenary Council of Australia at different times over the last couple of years, an important event in the Catholic Church of Australia. During the second general assembly held on July 3-9 this year, more than 35 motions were put to a consultative and deliberative vote. The motions accepted and passed by the council have now been confirmed as decrees arising from the council; they represent the themes of importance discussed and debated throughout the process and are as follows:

Decree 1 Reconciliation - Healing Wounds, Receiving Gifts

Decree 2 Choosing Repentance - Seeking Healing

Decree 3 Called by Christ - Sent Forth as Mission Disciples

Decree 4 Witnessing to the Equal Dignity of Women and Men

Decree 5 Communion in Grace - Sacrament to the World

Decree 6 Formation and Leadership for Mission and Ministry

Decree 7 At the Service of Communion Participation and Mission – Governance

Decree 8 Integral Ecology and Conversion for the Sake of Our Common Home

Decree 9 The Implementation Phase of the Fifth Plenary Council

Decree 10 The Decrees of the Fourth Plenary Council of Australia
