CSSA South Coast Zone Basketball Gala Day

On Friday 26 August, we had four secondary teams attend the CSSA South Coast Zone Basketball Gala Day. It was an enjoyable day where our players challenged their skills and played better than they thought they could.

Our Junior girls ended up winning for their age group and played flawlessly. The Senior girls team, although they didn’t win a game, improved so much throughout the day. A quote from Mr Clarke 'Open girls were dunking left right and centre'. We ended our last game with 12 points which was a big improvement from our first game of three points.

The Open boys, a covid-stricken team, had Darcy step in at the last minute and he played amazingly! They fought very challenging games and absolutely demolished the other team in the first game.

The Junior boys played ferociously. Nathan destroyed players under the rim and the team worked well together. They won their first game with amazing shots from all the players.

As mentioned, the Junior girls played spectacularly. They won two of their games and drew one of the games. All the girls attempted and scored incredible shots. They had an amazingly supportive team, sharing the ball around equally to their players. In their last game they needed to win their game by 24 to take home the trophy. They all played to their strengths and scored 27, taking home an satisfying win. It was great to see all the teams work together and have fun.

Nextstep at HMAS Albatross

On Thursday 18 August, eight Year 10 students visited HMAS Albatross as part of the Naval Aviation Prospects Scheme Nextstep.

The day involved a presentation from Defence Force Recruiting and a resume writing and interview skills session. The students also enjoyed a delicious lunch and a game of pool in the Junior Officers Mess.

The most enjoyable aspect of the day was the morning session in the gym. This session included games like 'Tic Tac Toe on the Run' and 'Giants, Wizards and Elves'. It also involved a variety of team building scenarios where students had to work together to help villagers, avoid being eaten by sharks and extract humanitarian aid from the sea before it was destroyed by lava.

Petty Officer Jan Gilmour spoke highly of our NCS representatives, saying that they displayed the best teamwork she had seen in a long time. There are many pathways into Defence Force careers. You can find out about them at www.defencejobs.gov.au.

Primary Chess Tournament

On Tuesday 16 August, ten of our primary students travelled to Gerringong to take part in a Chess Gala Day for local school teams. We fielded two teams of four players and one team of two players. All our players had some positive results, with draws or wins for everyone. Coupled with that were some defeats, where usually players learn more about the game and their own tactics.

Our first four managed to finish with 18.5 points from their matches. That was only a point less than the eventual winning team. In fact, the top four teams ended the day with only a one point difference, so it's fair to say there wasn't much between the best teams present.

All who played acquitted themselves fantastically, playing with great spirit and fairness throughout. Well done, Asha F, Alexis K, Abby D, Ethan V, Jethro S, Patrick W, Levi H, Amelia W, Alexis F and Coby H!

NCS Perspective evenings

As part of our enrolment process, new families are now required to attend an NCS Perspective Coffee and Dessert evening within the first year of their child's enrolment. The aim of these events is to present the Christian perspective on life, teaching and learning at NCS.

Despite COVID delaying our inaugural event in 2021, we have now been able to hold two of these nights this year. We held one in June and one last Wednesday night.

Parents/carers who attended, enjoyed a scrumptious dessert, some of which was prepared by our Stage 5 Food and Technology class, and coffee served by The Bearded Brewer. There was also opportunity for new families to mingle with each other and staff members while they ate their dessert.

After dessert, our school chaplains presented a short talk about Jesus and how he provides a solution to mending our broken relationship with God. Mrs Thompson presented an interesting talk on what it means to teach from a Biblical perspective. We also heard from some of our students and staff about their perspective on being at a Christian school in a short video.

A big thank you to Casey M and Danica K who helped out at our June event, and Charlotte K, Corinne C, Courtney L, Amelia E and Casey M, who helped set-up, prepare and serve food to our parents/carers last Wednesday night.

If you attended one of these nights, we would really love to hear your feedback so we can improve future events. Please complete a feedback form below.

If you were unable to attend this year, we will be holding our next NCS Perspective on 23 February 2022. Although this event is intended for new families, existing members of our school community are also welcome to attend. If you would like to register for this event, please see below.
