Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!

The Mid-Autumn Festival is a wonderful Chinese-traditional holiday that celebrates the auspicious beliefs of a full moon, in which families come together to spend the celebration with one another.

A common celebratory tradition is to eat yuè bîng (mooncakes) and whilst we haven’t explicitly celebrated this holiday, our Chinese class was able to share the festivities by eating delicious yuè bîng provided by our teacher! (谢谢陈老师)

We want to wish the rest of the school a happy mid-autumn festival for the upcoming Saturday.

中秋节快乐!

(Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!)

We were happy to get to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival and learn more about the Chinese cultures and celebrations. We were each given a mooncake, which is a huge part of the festival. We were very excited to investigate this traditional celebration like appreciating the bright moon and at night, children play with lanterns etc.

I found it really special to celebrate Chinese culture with my classmates and eat the delicious 月饼 (mooncakes), because I have no Chinese family and rarely get to celebrate this beautiful culture!

The Mid-Autumn Festival is on the 10th of September this year and it is many people’s favourite event of the year. It is a time where families can spend time together because it is believed that when there is a full moon, it means family reunion and prosperity. There are many ways to celebrate this festival, normally I eat mooncake or make lanterns. The Mid-Autumn Festival is truly one of a kind and I think everyone should know about it!

Last Friday, we celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival中秋节 (zhong qiu jie)! We ate red bean and taro mooncakes as well as learnt about the origins of the Mid-Autumn Festival and different zhong qiu jie traditions! We all had a great time and look forward to celebrating more Chinese festivals.

International Students Program

Mid-Autumn Festival, is celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar. It is a time for family members to congregate, admire the full moon and eat mooncakes in some Asian countries.

It is interesting to see that we celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival in spring in Australia.  In fact, the full moon is a symbol of reunion. No matter whenever, it always about getting together and we have each other. After months of busy school life and SACs, the International Student Program had a long overdue reunion on the 6th of September. Our ISP family finally came together to celebrate the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival. It’s glad to see our Year 12 students and new enrolled students shared study tips, experience and challenges they could encounter in their studies and new life in this country with each other.

Remarkably, we also found out that we have a mooncake lover among us had eaten five whole mooncakes in 30 minutes! A record for mooncake lover at the MGC lunch break. Yes, for her sake, we decided to set this record in our program.

No matter where you are from, regardless whether we are together or apart, all those blessings are forever linked. Wish all the students and their families have a happy Mid-autumn Festival.

It’s full moon. It’s the time to catch up with our family.
