Senior Years Term Three Review

A massive term draws to a close. As well as time spent on studies, Deb Balls were back on the agenda as students sacrificed hours over weekends practicing their dance steps, and even a mullet or two along the way, to have their night of nights on the dance floor. Outdoor Education camps, ski trips and an excursion to Melbourne were also on the agenda this term.  During SPD, our Year 10’s experienced first-hand the kind of aptitude test that TAFE uses with potential students, while Years 11 & 12 have had a host of guest speakers and programs aimed at safe driving or life after Year 12. It was great to have 2 past students in Sam McLean and Krystal De Napoli come back to talk to the students about their experiences post-WHS.

Term 3 was also when students in Year 10 & 11 sat down to consider what subjects they will undertake in 2023.

For our Year 12’s it’s been a juggle between staying on top of SAC’s, frantically working on their portfolios, preparing for exams and beginning the long process of considering their future pathway, such as getting in their applications for universities, residences and scholarships undertaken. Some students participated in a whirlwind tour of the hospital and met a range of professionals who work in that industry.

All students enrolled in a Unit 3 / 4 subject undertook the GAT and for the 1st time this included all our VCAL students, and it was pleasing to hear that the official supervisors were very impressed with the manner in which our students conducted themselves.

Our Year 11’s have now completed the all important VCE jumper fitting process and will eagerly await the arrival of their personalised final year jumper, and a talented group of Year 10’s are now in the midst of the nomination process to become the next generation of Wangaratta High School Prefects – congratulations to every student who nominated and stood in front of their peers to present their speech, our student body is in good hands with the calibre of candidates who took part.

As you head off for a break, take some time to think of the senior students who are using this time to undertake lectures for exam preparation, or are coming back into the school to sit practice exams or complete extra assessment tasks as exams loom.

To all our students, find some time to relax, stay safe and we’ll see you all back raring to go for Term 4.
