Acting Assistant Principal's Update

Dear Families, Students and Community Members,
Well we are halfway through Term 4 and the 2022 academic year is drawing to a close. It has been another year of jam packed extra-curricular activities such as lunchtime clubs, bands and DJs. This year we had more clubs at lunchtime on offer than in previous years, which ranged from gardening to chess, futsal to drama - there really is something for every student at lunchtime at Mordialloc College.
A few weeks back the Mordialloc College Student Council (MCSC) went through the election process for their new leaders for 2023. The process consisted of students first submitting a written application, they all then made a speech at their Subschool assembly in front of hundreds of their peers, and finally they were interviewed by members of the School Leadership team, YLCs and Directors of Subschool.
I am pleased to announce the following successful applicants for MCSC Leadership 2023:
MCSC Leadership 2023
School Captains - Amelia Davidson, Jeremy Thai-Chan
Vice Captains - Reema Ababneh, Jordan Shenouda
Middle School Captains - Reny Zhang, Ethan Simons
Middle School Vice-Captains - Alex Wragg, Bonnie Blinco, Caleb Mulcahy
Subcommittee Captains
Community and Wellbeing - Tenillia Tong, Cassandra Lawson
Curriculum - Jessica House, Reema Ababneh
Facilities and Environment - Amelia Davidson, Jeremy Thai-Chan
Promotions and Fundraising - Ava Bridger, Jordan Shenouda
Sports - Nina Davis, Lewis Hatch
The Arts
Performing Arts - Katherine Papadopoulos, Matilda Harwood
Visual Arts - Eva Coulton
Let's congratulate our new leaders on their success but for also putting themselves out there as the process does involve bravery. A reminder that any of our students can join one of the sub-committees at any time to have their voices heard and make a difference to their school community. If your child is interested, ask them to email or come and see Mr Cummins in the Food Technology area.
The MCSC will hold its Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 30 November (Week 9). This will be an exciting opportunity for our old leaders of 2022 to hand over to our new leaders, and then in their respective sub committees plan their actions and events for 2023.
On Thursday 1 December we will be holding our first House Point reward excursion. This is when the top 10 House Points earners from each year level will enjoy a day out at a venue of choice such as Luna Park, the movies or ice-skating. The winners will get to vote and the majority votes will decide the destination. It's been awesome to watch our students work hard to be awarded House Points and it has really help encourage positive behaviours around the school - with many students attending the lunchtime Emu Bop to earn points as one example of a means to be awarded points.
VCE Unit 3 & 4 Exams are drawing to a close next week and our students have been studying hard and progressing to the finishing line. There will be the Valedictory Dinner next week and, of course, they will have their own celebrations planned.
All Year 9, 10 and 11 students are currently undertaking their end of year exams. Students have been engaged in revision in the week leading up to exams. This exam period is a great way for all students to become familiar with the process they will be experiencing when they undertake their own Unit 3 & 4 exams.
A reminder that it's last call to book a spot on the Year 7 to 9 Funfields Excursion next Thursday 17 November. Don’t let your child miss out on this fun celebration day to mark the end of the academic year. Please email Mr McFarland with any enquiries- or look for the event on Compass events.
A reminder that all students from Years 7 to 9 have their Student Led Conferences on Wednesday 16 November. An appointment time has been made for them on Compass, and they will be working on their presentations next Tuesday in school. This presentation is a celebration of their academic year and a chance for our students to reflect on all the positive progress they have made this year in all aspects of the time at Mordialloc College.
Finally, a reminder that Friday 18 November is a student free day. This allows all teachers crucial planning time to deliver a prompt start to Headstart and provide a meaningful taster of the new academic year and subjects for our students before they depart on a much deserved Christmas holiday.
This will be my last newsletter article for 2022 so I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and all our Mordialloc College community a Happy Christmas and a Peaceful New Year.
Simon Cummins
