💻 Term 4 Digital Technology Newsletter 💻

How time flies when you’re having fun! Who can believe that we are in Week 7 of Term 4? It has been a very busy term in Digital Technology, however, it is amazing to reflect on all that we have achieved so far.

Junior DT

This term the Juniors have been working on improving their computer skills. Not only are they continuing to improve their abilities to log on to laptops but the students have been learning to navigate programs such as Google Classroom and Google Slides. In these programs they have been learning to insert images, cut and paste as well as adding text boxes. The Junior’s used these skills when creating a holiday recount and again when they created a day and night scene for their BeeBot characters which incorporated what they have been learning in their Inquiry sessions.

The Juniors were instrumental in creating activities for the school’s BeeBot mats which could be used during the Art Show. Their problem solving and coding skills were put to the test as they trailed and then edited these games. It certainly paid off as there was lots of fun had with the BeeBots on the night of the Art Show!

Senior DT

This term the Seniors have been focusing on improving their typing speed and accuracy. At the beginning of each session they have been accessing the ‘Keyboard Skills’ games that are located on the student portal to continue to practice their letter identification and to challenge themselves to use more than just their index fingers when typing.

It has been great to see the continued improvement and it is exciting to think of just how much growth the students will have made by the end of the term.

Don’t forget that these are activities that you can access at home if you want to continue practicing!

The seniors have also been looking in to different types of coding languages and the role of codes throughout history. In doing so, they have been able to crack different coded messages, convert numbers into binary as well as creating a short sentence in binary.

They have also continued to expand on their knowledge of block coding using the Hour of Code activities through the Code.org program creating their own Minecraft, Mario, Flappy Bird and dancing games.

Visual Arts Term 4

A Huge Thank You

I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to all staff and students for all their hard work and effort in making our Art Show successful.  I could not be any prouder of all the students this year as they have worked hard all year, with many spending some of their lunchtimes to complete their pieces.

Each lesson the students amazed me with their creativity and effort to do their best in order to create fabulous art pieces to show off at the Art Show.  On the night, I loved seeing parents taking photos of their children with their artwork and my hope is that the artwork is hung up or displayed at home.

The art will be coming home over the next couple of weeks.  Thank you to all the parents who contributed to art show with their own creative pieces.

I would also like to thank ALL the staff members, including the LSO’s, who worked above and beyond, to not only work with their home groups to create their art pieces, but to mount, label and display these pieces in such creative ways, as well as helping out others when needed.

These nights don’t happen overnight, and I could not have managed without the constant support across the year from the Specialist team.  Their support, encouragement and willingness to do the smallest job was invaluable so a big thank you to Daniela, Rachel, Kristy, Taryn and Lulli.

Lastly, thank you to all the families that came along and made the night such a wonderful experience.

This week, the juniors have had a bit of fun creating their own super heroes using straws, pipe cleaners and beads.  Check out these beauties that CW made.
