Junior School

“In the beginning, God created heaven and the earth.”
 Genesis 1:1

As I pause and reflect on this very first verse in the Bible, I am reminded of our ultimate creator God, who gave life and representation to every creature on earth. He is a magnificent artist and, because we live in His image, we are all creators as well.

Creative Arts have long been interwoven throughout our King’s College’s curriculum. This is seen in our Assemblies through drama, song and dance, or in class activities through art activities and music lessons. These opportunities help students to flourish while bringing glory to God through their talents. As teachers, reminding our students of their unique God given talents is a great privilege.

A special highlight for students, teachers and parents was the recent performance of the Year 5/6 choir, who performed a beautiful song at last week’s Junior School Assembly. Weeks of rehearsal came together to create a special memory that all audience members enjoyed. A special thank you to Mrs Robyn Parker, our music teacher, who taught and coordinated these students to perform this special song.

An additional opportunity has recently been on offer for our students to develop and express their talents to peers and teachers. An upcoming Talent Show to be held at lunch time next week, has seen students practising their craft during lunch and recess. A couple of students have been seen and heard busking with their instruments, filling the air with beautiful music.

Rehearsals for our Junior School Presentation Night see students practicing plays, songs and actions throughout the school on most mornings in November. In fact, as I am typing I can hear the Preps practicing their Christmas item next door. What a wonderful community to be part of. I am so thankful to God for the amazing staff and students at King’s College who daily use their God given gifts, talents, and creativity He has given them.

On a final note, details of our Junior School Presentation Night, to be held on the 1st of December at 7pm, will be sent out next week. Please mark this special date in your calendars!

Junior School P.A.L.S Afternoon

Yesterday students from Prep to Year 6 enjoyed our final instalment of P.A.L.S Afternoons for 2022. P.A.L.S stands for Physical Education, Art, Language and Science. This is a time where our Year 6 students demonstrate their great leadership and communication skills as they plan, create and deliver activities for their fellow Junior School friends.

As has been the case for the previous afternoons, students gathered in six teams and rotated around engaging, Science themed activities! These activities include making paper planes, designing a balloon zip line, creating a model catapult, engineering the tallest marshmallow and pasta structure, and of course, the traditional chocolate frog break to keep our energy up!

A big thank you to our Year 6 students who have taken on board this new initiative this year, and enabled special memories and friendships to be created amongst our Junior School students.

Prep

The Prep students had a great time on their excursion last Thursday! We loved playing Mini Golf and riding on the trains!

Year 1

Last week our Year 1 class went on their excursion to the Cobden Miniature Railways and Mini Golf. Much fun was had by all, from the bus adventures to the many activities throughout the day. With favourable weather, the Mini Golf and train rides were a real hit with the students. A highlight for Loretta and Bobby-Joe was hitting a hole in one and receiving a special prize.

The train rides provided much laughter and joy. Adventures through the tunnels, guessing which train would leave the station first and  spotting friends on the other train as they passed each other created much amusement. The students enjoyed games and loved the bubble wands, making a spectacular display, before returning to school. A special thank you to Mrs Lea Job for making some yummy funny face biscuits and our parent helpers who were able to support us for this outing.

Year 2

Year 2 have enjoyed learning about Remembrance Day this week. Through creative artwork, detailed picture storybooks and written facts, students were given multiple opportunities to demonstrate their new knowledge and reflect on the importance of this special day. Students look forward to the whole school Assembly to be held this Friday as we commemorate this important day as a school.

Year 5

The Year 5 students are busy with assessments and finishing off work. One of these assignments in Humanities is that they are given $3000 of imaginary money. They need to choose a bank to deposit half that amount and then are free to spend the other half any way they want! However, they need to be smart consumers by shopping around, comparing prices, quality, style, etc. and provide reasons for their choices. They are having so much fun "buying" pets, huge Lego sets, expensive shoes, and more.

Year 6

Year 6 continue to be busy. We have a lot of leadership roles that the class always step up and admirably fill. We always enjoy our Buddy afternoons with Prep. We participated in the ceremony where a Lone Pine was presented to the school. Some have also represented the school in volleyball and cricket.

In class, we are working our way through our final assessments and completing our last big assignments, with the occasional fun break rehearsing the Nativity play which we are going to be performing in the last week of school.

There is also much excitement as we plan our Graduation Celebration for after the Junior School Presentation night. The class are taking full ownership of the event and each student has taken on responsibility for a certain part of the night. Plans are going really well and it looks like it will be a terrific night.
