Jacob Seaman

Softball stand-out in State squad

YEAR 9 student Jacob Seaman will represent WA in Melbourne this summer - covering first base for the State softball team. We caught up with Jacob at recess . . .

St Norbert News: How did you become involved in softball?

Jacob: My Dad and brother (Luke, Year 11) introduced me to the sport. Luke has played at State level before.

SNN: How did Luke help you to get where you are?

JS: Luke has helped me by training me to get where I am today.

SNN: What is the difference between baseball and softball?

JS:  The difference is the size and how the ball is pitched at you.

SNN: How often and where do you play and practice?

JS: I train two times a week for WA and I play for the Fremantle Rebels and the Thornlie Hawks.

SNN: What is the No.1 skill required to be a good first baseman?

JS: You need to be able to stretch.

SNN: Do you play other positions too?

JS: Yes - second base

SNN: What has been the highlight of your time playing softball so far?

JS: Getting two home runs in two different grand finals straight after each other.

SNN: What’s in store in Melbourne in January?

JS: It's the Under 16 Boys competition for the Arthur Allsopp Shield that runs from 12-16 of January in Waverley.  (Last year the event was cancelled; WA last won the shield in 2003.

SNN: Do you have a role model in the sport?

JS: My brother and Dad.
