From the Principal

Mr Simon Harvey

Dear Parents, Guardians, Students, Staff and Friends of St Norbert College,

“Respect starts with a willingness to give. To give your time, give your knowledge, your skills or even just your attention. Respect is to see the person in front of you for who they are – created by God, capable of doing good and full of their own potential”

_ Sarah Abood, Year 10 student

Sarah Abood did a superb job as the MC at our recent College assembly. The quote above from Sarah formed part of her introduction and welcome to the assembly and articulated clearly the essence and relevance of this occasion.

The theme of the assembly was our College value of Respect and we used this opportunity to present the 2022 College Presentation Nights awards to our Year 7 – 10 recipients, to acknowledge the awards received by our Climate Canons and Mathematics achievements and to reflect on the wonderful service of our Kimberley Immersion team.

OUR annual College Presentation Night, in broadcast form last weekend, was another shining example of our College values, sharing a vibrancy of activity we have experienced this year. The FACES, presented by our ex-students, gave a real sense of the value that membership of the St Norbert College community adds to one’s life. Heartfelt thanks especially to Miss Kerri Hilton, for bringing together the artistry of sight, sound and movement and an unfailing dedication to our College. We also thank those who supported Miss Hilton – Mrs Lisa Quartermain, Mrs Angela Hughes and Brad Habib and the team at SoundBytes and SoundBox productions

Receiving an award is more than a prize, it is testament to or the reward the appropriate use of one’s own gifts and talents – “created by God, capable of doing good and full of their own potential”. It goes without saying that with hard work and effort, anyone can be a recipient, and anyone can be rewarded with the gift of acknowledgment.

And speaking of awards, it was wonderful to hear that Peter Bol (Class of 2012) was announced this week as the WA Young Australian of the Year. St Norbert College is creating a wonderful record with this prestigious award, laying claim now to have had two winners across three occasions educated here. Simone McMahon (Class of 1999) was bestowed twice, in 2006 and 2008.

As Sarah Abood shared, and I’m sure all would agree that both Simone and Peter give immeasurably of themselves, “Respect starts with a willingness to give” and we know that when we give of ourselves, our time, knowledge, skills and attention, we are rewarded.

“For it is in giving, that we truly receive” _ (St Francis of Assisi)

God bless.

Mr S Harvey
