Principal's Notes

Dear families and friends,

Thank you to the Cavendish Lions Club for their recent donation of $300. We are very grateful for your support of our little school. We will put this towards some new home and class reading books for the junior class for 2023.

School Play - The Golden Plan

CONGRATULATIONS to all the students on their amazing performance on Wednesday night. The teachers were all incredibly proud of their efforts and the way they performed. This is an example for the students of what can be achieved when we practise and put 100% effort into tasks. At Cavendish PS, we have learning behaviours that we encourage the students to work on. Our values of 'Challenge Ourselves' and 'Work Together' was very much showcased throughout practises and the performance.

Cyber Safety Visit

Next Monday, all students in Years 3/4/5/6 will have a session with members of the Victorian Police Force about being safe online. Leading Constable Paul Keats (Youth Resources Officer), Senior Constable Kel Flavel and our own senior Leading Constable Paul McLean will be here to help guide our students through the tricky world of being safe online.

Cybersafety is the safe and responsible use of information and communication technology. It is about keeping information safe and secure, but also about being responsible with that information, being respectful of other people online, and using good 'netiquette' (internet etiquette).

Swimming

We begin our two week swimming program next Monday in at HILAC, we will leave school at 12.30 on Trotters coaches to begin our lessons from 1-2pm. We will return back to school as soon as the second group changes. After Monday's lesson, we will be able to confirm whether the students are in the first or second group. Families are very welcome to come and watch as well.

Reminder - All payments and forms must be completed and handed in to the school prior to Mondays lesson.

Assessment

All of our teachers have been very busy completing their end of year assessment tasks, reviewing learning data and collating a range of student work samples. This will enable our teachers to finalise each student's efforts, progress and achievements against the Victorian Curriculum Standards.  At Cavendish PS, we have an assessment schedule of formal tests and tasks that are completed each semester or yearly for the teachers to complete with their students to assist with making judgments for their reports. Our reports will be sent home with the students on December 15th. We have a student free day on Monday 28th November to allow time for teachers to complete their report writing and assessment marking.

School Leaders 2023

We have begun to discuss student leadership for 2023 with our senior students.  I have finished writing a role and responsibilities for each of our leadership positions. The positions for next year will be School Captains, Junior School Council Leaders, House Captain, Performing Arts Leader, Library Monitor and a new position of Environment Monitor. I will speaking to the senior students next week in preparation for their applications.

Holiday!

We wish Mrs Bell and Miss Purnell a wonderful holiday over the next 3 weeks.  Enjoy the lovely weather while you are island hopping!

Have a lovely weekend,

Lisa Ferrier
