WGS IELC - Intensive English Language Class

This term we have started an Intensive English Language Class to support non English speaking new arrivals in local accommodation who are unable to attend a local IELC due to enrolment pressure.

"The program will ensure that students can benefit from attending school and to learn English in a supportive environment in preparation for their transition to an Intensive English Language Program (IELP) once more secure housing is available for them and their family. " Department for Education.

Josie Poulton is the full time teacher in this class, supported by our EALD team and the IELP team in the Department. We thank Josie and the EALD team for all their efforts in supporting our new families in the IELC to feel safe and welcome at WGS. Our seven new arrivals have embraced school and are already settling into the classroom well. Students range from Reception to Year 5 and are from Ertrea, Burma and Syria, with more enrolments on the way over the next few weeks.
