Year 8 Bridging English – Heroes In Our Lives
Over the last two weeks our Year 8 English Bridging class has been working on a Heroes Assessment. This provided students with the opportunity to think about someone who has the qualities of a hero, after student's developed a list of heroic characteristics (adventurous, humble, inspirational, courageous, resilient etc).
We had some wonderful heroes chosen by our Year 8 class; Muhammad Ali, Lionel Rose, Jessica Mauboy, Nelson Mandela, Eddie Mabo etc.
This task saw them complete scaffolding work around different heroes in our world, the adjectives to describe a hero and sharing local heroes in our community.
The conclusion of this assessment occurred on Friday when students presented their tasks as an oral presentation to the class using PowerPoint. It was a very proud teaching moment to see our class proudly stand up and quite confidently share their presentations. They all did a fabulous job.
This week we will be continuing our focus on local heroes with a letter writing task to either a staff member at school or a community or family member that are influential in the lives of our Year 8's.
