Scholarship opportunities at St Mark’s College

I am delighted to share this information about scholarship opportunities at St Mark’s College in 2023 and invite you to pass it on to any of your students who may be suitable and interested.

What is St Mark’s College?

St Mark’s is a residential college in Adelaide. We provide a safe and supportive academic community where students can live and learn while studying at the University of Adelaide, University of South Australia, and Flinders University.

Scholarships

Applications for new student scholarships in 2023 are now open. Our scholarship program aims to support students in financial need and recognise excellence, to ensure that as much as possible financial need is not a barrier to a quality education at St Mark’s. To be eligible for scholarships in the general scholarship rounds, students need to receive an offer of resident student membership. The exceptions to this are the A. Simpson & Sons Scholarship, the Robin Ashwin Scholarship and the CAS Hawker Scholarship: a place will typically be made available to recipients of these three awards.

The A. Simpson & Sons Scholarship

The A. Simpson & Sons Scholarship is awarded annually by St Mark’s on the basis of excellence in intellect, character, leadership, and service, and of financial need. The Scholarship was established in 2022 by Old Collegian Mr Antony Simpson, warmly supported by his sons. The Scholarship is open both to new and to returning students of the College, regardless of gender, and to students of any discipline.

In 2023 the A. Simpson & Sons Scholarship is valued at up to $10,000, and may be awarded individually or shared between two scholars.

The Robin Ashwin Scholarship

The Robin Ashwin Scholarship is for an excellent student whose studies have a strong international focus, and who is in financial need. The strong international focus could be, but does not need to be, in the study of international relations or international politics; it could be in any relevant field or fields of study, such as, for example, health, economics, history, law, or other fields. The Scholarship was created in 2020 through the generosity of the family of the late Charles Robin Ashwin (1930-2019), former Master of the College (1991-99).

In 2023 the Robin Ashwin Scholarship is valued at up to $10,000, and may be awarded individually or shared between two scholars.

CAS Hawker Scholarship

The CAS Hawker Scholarship is a generous and prestigious scholarship for high-achieving all-rounders with leadership potential and a commitment to serving their community. The Scholarship is valued at up to $60,000 over three years, and provides the Scholar with support to live at one of several residential colleges during their degree, including St Mark’s. You can find out more about the program on their website: www.hawkerscholarship.org/.

Who should apply

Academically outstanding students (normally with ATARs in the high 90s) with a strong history of leadership and co-curricular engagement who are in financial need should consider applying for the A. Simpson & Sons Scholarship and, if their studies have a strong international focus, the Robin Ashwin Scholarship.

The CAS Hawker Scholarship attracts students with similar characteristics, and does not have a financial need criteria.
