Thought for the week:

'Soul has infinite resources with which to bless mankind, and happiness would be more readily attained and would be more secure in our keeping, if sought in Soul.'

Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health 60: 29-31

I wish all parents, students and staff a warm welcome to 2021. It has been so exciting to see a school return to its brilliant vibrancy, energy and sense of happiness as we reconnect and enjoy all that Huntingtower has to offer.  It gives me joy to drive through the gates each morning knowing I have the privilege to immerse myself in the beautiful grounds, culture and community. For the families who have joined the Huntingtower community this year, we extend a special welcome to you and look forward to your involvement and connection with this special community.

At our Senior School Commencement Assembly, we had the pleasure of listening to an inspirational address by Ms Di Westaway OAM. Di is a past student of Huntingtower and an advocate for healthy lifestyles and empowering women (and men) to embrace adventure.  Di is the Founder and CEO of Wild Women on Top, a social purpose enterprise which helps women soar beyond their wildest dreams. Under Di’s leadership, Wild Women on Top has inspired nearly 100,000 people to hike for health and raised nearly $40 million for charity.  During the course of Di’s address, she shared with us her 10 daily rituals of joy:

  1. Love: Makes the world go round
  2. Move: Walk, puff, lift and play every day
  3. Nourish: Eat real food, mostly plants
  4. Sleep: 8 hours
  5. Nature: Daily dose
  6. Mindfulness: Breathe, pray, dream
  7. Goodness: We are born to be good
  8. Gratitude: Tiny slivers of joy
  9. Giggles: Laugh more
  10. Tech off

I believe that the combination of these daily rituals of joy and the words of Mrs Eddy encouraging us to seek from Soul all the infinite resources available to us, creates a potent recipe to achieve the very mission and purpose of Huntingtower: to be a beneficial presence in the world, to uplift thought and to bless mankind.

We look forward to seeing as many families as possible at the Parents and Friends’ Welcome Picnic. This will be held in the Huntingtower Quadrangle commencing at 6 pm on Friday 26 February.  This is a relaxed evening where families can bring a picnic and rug, enjoy a BBQ and meet with families and staff.  We will again have a ‘buskers’ corner’, giving students an opportunity for authentic performance and entertainment for all to enjoy.  I look forward to seeing you at the picnic.

This week we enjoyed our first school carnival for 2021. The Senior School House Swimming Carnival was held at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre. It was a wonderful day full of healthy competition, personal bests and house spirit.  Congratulations to all the students for giving their best and the staff for working so hard to ensure everything ran smoothly.  The carnival was won by Rayner followed by Mather, Warrell and Bruce.

On Wednesday, the Junior School participated in the Syndal District Schools Sports Association swimming competition held at Huntingtower. A big thank you to Joanna Clapp for organising such a wonderful carnival. It was fantastic to see Huntingtower win the event!

May you all have a wonderful year and I look forward to seeing you at our many school events throughout the year.
