Focus on French

Bonjour à tous!
It’s hard to believe it’s almost the end of term four! It has been so incredible to reconnect in person with students and families across the school this term.
Year 5/6 Students
Students began the return to onsite learning by translating texts of increasing difficulty from French to English. They participated in speaking and listening tasks such as posing questions related to a range of topics and identifying key words in aural texts. They also expanded their knowledge of language related to hobbies and favourite school subjects such as les maths, la géographie. Students then applied their learning to create a written text using vocabulary explored throughout the term.
Year 3/4 Students
Students began the term by revising a range of fundamental vocabulary. They worked on strategies to translate various texts from French to English. Students then expanded their knowledge of language to describe themselves using phrases such as j’habite à (I live in), etc. They learned the French names for different sports and how to express whether they like or dislike certain activities. Students then applied their learning to write their own personal profiles.
Year 1/2 Students
Students started their French learning this term by revising asking someone how they are. They used vocabulary such as ça va, ça va bien, etc. in drama games and written tasks. They also expanded their French language knowledge related to different celebrations including l’Halloween and Noël. Students then learned the names of a range of food including le chocolat, les croissants, etc. They incorporated this vocabulary into simple written tasks such as labelling drawings and then created their own café menus.
Foundation
Students in Foundation learned to ask someone how they are using vocabulary such as ça va?, ça va bien, etc. through a range of play based activities. They developed their knowledge of language related to celebrations such as L’Halloween and Noël. Students learned how to sing Joyeux Anniversaire and explored the song C’est L’Halloween. They also discovered the song and actions for Bébé Requin (Baby Shark) and some simple vocabulary related to family, such as maman (mum) and papa (dad).
