Principal's Report

2021 is off to a wonderful start! From the very first day, classrooms were settled and children were learning and having fun. The caring, friendly atmosphere around our school is palpable, enhanced by the joy of having buzzing school grounds with parents and carers dropping off and collecting their children once again.
Thank you very much to parents, carers and other visitors for maintaining physical distancing while in the school grounds and following the necessary COVID safe procedures.

Communication
Class Dojo will be used to communicate important class and school messages to parents and carers this year. Parents and carers, if you haven’t joined Class Dojo yet, please contact your child’s teacher for assistance (staff email addresses are on the school website). With notifications allowed, messages will appear on phones similar to text messages, making is easy for you to be sure that you don’t miss anything.
Newsletters will now be published on Thursdays in even school weeks (usually by 5:30pm).
Year Level Information Sessions
This year, our start of year information sessions for parents and carers are moving online (as movies available on our school website next week). This will allow you to view the information at a time that is convenient for you and supports the COVID safe approach within our school.
Our teachers have loved meeting many parents and carers when they have dropped their children off at school or picked them up. If you aren’t around the school at those times and haven’t met your child’s teacher/s yet, interviews are in Weeks 6 and 7 of this term.
Assemblies
We are very happy to be resuming face-to-face assemblies with our students this term. At this stage, occupant density limits are mandatory and having a small hall, this means that we are unable to welcome parents and carers to attend.
As Prep assemblies are much smaller than the Junior and Senior assemblies, tickets will be provided to parents/carers of students receiving Tally Tiger of the Week Awards.
Student Leaders’ Badge Ceremony
We are looking forward to presenting our 2021 student leaders with their badges next week. They are an exceptional group of young people and I am confident that they will do an excellent job fulfilling their roles this year.
Due to the required occupant density limit, this will be a ticketed event for parents/carers of the students receiving the badges so that they can share that special moment.
Tuckshop Volunteers
Please contact Desiree Lees (dlees31@eq.edu.au), our tuckshop supervisor, if you would like to volunteer in the tuckshop.
Staffing
It is my pleasure to welcome some new teachers to Team Tally: Lucy Smith (Prep), Heidi Presser (Year 1), Lani Pillinger (Year 2), Megan Slattery (Year 4) and Kerri Buchanan (Instrumental).
This year, we farewell Marg Whale who has made the very difficult decision to retire. Marg has had a long career, enjoying teaching children and we will miss her greatly. We wish her all the very best for the next chapter of her life.
Year 6 Graduation 2020
This is our first newsletter since Yr 6 graduation last year, so I would like to take this opportunity to extend thanks to the following people and organisations for their generous support, allowing use to recognise outstanding student achievements and effort with prizes: Councillor Gail O’Neill; The Mayoral Division 14 Donation; The Hon Karen Andrews MP; Neumann Benevolent Foundation; John Fischer – PRD Burleigh Heads; Jason West – One Agency; The Lions Club of Tallebudgera; Lions Club of Palm Beach Currumbin and Camp Australia.
Thank you to our P&C for a generous donation supporting this event and organising an event for parents and carers to spend time together, marking the milestone of graduation.
