Messages from our Librarian - Mrs Adams

Welcome back!

Welcome back to our library for 2021. Hopefully you all had a wonderful holiday and got to read lots of books. Once again there are many things planned for the library this year so I'm hoping things will go smoothly and children will enjoy everything about the library and our school. Below I will outline some of the things which will  happen in our library this year.

Once again Mrs Croft will help us in the library

Library Classes

Tuesday - Stage 2

Wednesday - Stage 1

Thursday - Kinder and Stage 3

Once again we ask that all children return their books each week so that they can borrow a new one. Children can not receive a new book if they haven't returned their old one.

Also each child is required to have a library bag to keep our books safe and clean from food and drinks..

The Library will also be open on a Thursday lunch so that children can access the library  their lunch.

Book Fairs

We normally have 2 a year and the first one will happen in March. This one is a Scholastic. Our second is in Book Week in August and The Reader's Companion from Armidale host this.

Author Visits

We like authors to visit us and if they can't we will visit them. Last year we had an Author Zoom visit. this year in March we have Phillip Kettle visiting the Stage 2 and 3 children.

Premier's Reading Challenge

The challenge begins in March and finishes at the end of August. It aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students, and to enable them to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely. The Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) is open to all of the children in our school.

Reading Platforms

Here at St Joseph's we don't just have beautiful books to borrow but the children also have access to a number of Reading Platforms. These are available to the children at home as well as school. All they need is access to a device. Over the next few weeks I will go through the platforms that we have so as not to overwhelm you.

This is a great site where books are read to you. It is a website which has beautiful Australian books read to the children by actors, musicians and just fantastic storytellers.

This website is not only suitable to our infants children but it also has books that suitable for our Stage 2 and 3 children
