Classroom News

Grade 3 & 4

Although Week 4 didn’t begin how we had expected, we continue to be inspired and blown away by how quickly the students at BPS adapt to change. We are so proud of our 3/4 cohort and can’t wait to pick up their learning in the classroom.

Reading

This term in Reading we are very excited to be using “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” as our mentor text. Over the next few weeks, we will be learning how to make inferences and visualisations as we read. We will also continue to focus on our sticky-notes, and how we can use these as one strategy to track our thinking as we read.

 Writing

Please remember that students are expected to bring their own “seeds” to school (photos, pictures, ticket stubs, pamphlets, newspaper articles; anything that will inspire them to write). The more interesting the “seed”, the greater the scope for ideas and possible paths your child’s writing might take! This week we have practiced using the Three Levels of Thinking to unpack a writing seed. Next week we will begin looking at persuasive texts.

 Maths

In Maths, we are beginning to explore place value. We are beginning by looking at the patterns and rules around odd and even numbers and then will extend this to patterns of multiples up to 10.

Integrated

In Integrated Studies we are exploring CHOCOLATE!! Last week we began looking at how chocolate is made with a focus on solids and liquids. We will continue with this investigation over the next week. It will also include a lesson where we will make our own chocolate!
