Happy Chinese New Year, everyone!
Chinese New Year is a time for reunions and celebration. But due to Victoria COVID restrictions, we have canceled parades, festivals and fireworks. The celebration, which traditionally brings families together in large groups, looks so different this year. I couldn't celebrate this most important Chinese festival with my dear parents and extended family in China. We facetimed each other on New Year Eve pretending that we were having a dinner together. There was no hongbao from my mum and dad under my pillow this year. There were no firecracker noise, no mahjong noise and no my nephews and nieces' laughing and screaming, which I used to dislike but now I miss the most. However everything is worth it. I know that we stay home now to make sure we have a carefree future.
The warmth, comfort and support of our families and friends have given all of us strength to get through the most difficult times of COVID-19. Showing appreciation to family members this Chinese New Year is perhaps more important than ever. May the Year of the Ox bring you and your beloved family good health and a lot of happiness!
Home Learning
This week we are having a Chinese New Year Special lesson on Showbie. I have included the legend of Chinese New Year (Monster Nian Story), Chinese New Year song, some easy paper craft ideas and a lot of fun videos (firework show, lion dance, decorations and food). Many students have sent me some beautiful work. I have also received so many New Year wishes on Showbie from our BPS families. I feel so loved. That's why I love BPS. Thank you very much! 谢谢 (xiè xiè)!
