Classroom News

Grade 5 & 6

Term 1, Week 4 2021

Thank you to the parents and carers who were able to attend our Information Evening last Wednesday the 10th of February. We were pleased to share our curriculum, expectations and events for the year for our 5/6 students.

Our Learning:

Students have been working hard setting up their Writer’s Workshop and Reader’s Workshop over the last week. There have been some amazing front covers, and seeds to inspire our writing are starting to be collected. Teachers and students work hard at the beginning of the year to establish our workshop processes and models for a successful program all year. This is continuing to be consolidated through Showbie this week.

In maths, students have been exploring place value of large whole numbers (millions and more) using number lines, investigations and games. A focus for all 5/6 classes this term is also improving fluency of number facts and times tables through an online portal called Mathigon. Students have examined this last week and will continue to use this throughout this week on Showbie.

Summer Sport:

Last week our 5/6 students started training for our Summer Sport Round Robin coming up mid March. The sports students have chosen to participate in are basketball, cricket, hotshots tennis, sofcrosse and volleystars. More information about the Summer Sport Round Robin will be sent to families in the coming weeks.

Reminders:

Parent/Teacher Exchange forms were sent via Compass last week to all families. This form is an opportunity for you to share important information about your child, their strengths, goals and interests. If you feel you have more information to discuss with your child’s classroom teacher, you can book an appointment for a 10 minute Webex interview. Please see emails you have received via Compass for more details.

Upcoming Dates:

Monday 22nd February - Whole School Photos

Tuesday 23rd February/Wednesday 24th February - Parent/Teacher Exchange Interview (optional)

15th-19th March - Harmony Week

17th March - Welcome Picnic (more information to come)

We look forward to seeing all of our students back at school very soon!
