Manningham Youth Services: Schoolies Awareness

The team at Manningham Youth Services are providing information and resources for our Year 12 students about how to keep safe during the schoolies period.

Over the last couple of weeks they have been exploring the following three key messages on their social media pages:

  • Respecting yourself/friends
  • Thinking Safety
  • Respecting Community

Schoolies: Community & Surroundings

Our final week in our schoolies series, we highlight the importance of respecting and being aware of the community and your surroundings.

Whether you’re going away to someone’s holiday house, an Airbnb or motel, or going interstate to have fun- it’s important to be mindful of and respect your surroundings!

Headstart for Senior Students

This week (November 30th - December 4th) students will meet their teachers for next year and be given tasks to ensure they are prepared to excel in the next stage of their education. Students need to ensure they have the correct school uniform ready to go and an exercise book and stationery for their classes.

2021 VCE students

The week starts Period 1 with an assembly. Students will then have an introductory lesson in each subject; this lesson will conclude with the setting of a learning task which must be submitted on Thursday.

Wednesday is a day of independent learning from home. Students will be expected to use this day to carefully and thoroughly complete the task they were set on Monday/Tuesday. For some classes, students will spend time making sure they are properly connected to MS teams ready for 2021.

Teachers on Thursday and Friday will review the tasks students were set, set them up for their holiday homework and ensure they are ready to complete other preparations for 2021 over the coming months.

Please note that Period 4 on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday will have no lessons scheduled. This is a time when students may be required to confirm their course with the Senior School following the checking of exam results and subject payments.

All students’ Compass timetables will be updated on Friday to show their schedule for the Headstart week.

2021 VCAL students

Students will experience the 4 core VCAL subjects, with one subject per period on Monday and Tuesday. The core subjects are Work Related Skills, Personal Development Skills, Literacy and Numeracy. There will be a lesson plan and a task to complete each period for each subject.

In Work Related Skills, students will have some practical tasks to complete their ‘DSC Tools Licence’, this will be supervised by WRS teachers and by Tim Sprigg and the Facilities team.

During Period 1 on Monday, Students will attend their year level assembly. During Period 2 on Monday, Year 10 students will also miss 20minutes of class, as they are taken on a tour around the school, by the Year 12 VCAL students, in small groups. They’ll get to see the ‘Projects of the Past’ and ask questions about the experiences of students who are graduating. They will then gather with their supervising teacher and the year 12 teacher and students whilst Lisa Chiuchiarelli welcomes them to the program and establishes expectations for the learning environment.

Wednesday will involve atEast LLN testing period 1,2 and 3. Thursday and Friday will involve a range of activities in preparation for workplace learning. Current VCAL students may have an opportunity to attend TAFE or their work placement on Thursday or Friday, which they are encouraged to do, but they must inform Zoe Rohrlach in the Senior School if this is the case.

All students’ Compass timetable will be updated on Friday to show their schedule for the Headstart week.
