The Long-awaited Year 9 MySelf Excursion

With the easing of COVID -19 restrictions, students have begun to organise and attend some excursions in their MySelf units. The two MyCity classes had a great opportunity to ride the famous Melbourne Observation Wheel in The District. Two teachers, one student teacher and three Wellbeing placement students attended to assist with the new stricter social distancing requirement. Below is our Wellbeing placement students' reflection of our day out in Melbourne.

My City Excursion to the Melbourne

As Wellbeing Placement Students we were lucky enough to accompany a group of Year 9 students and staff on an excursion for their My City elective. It was awesome for DSC students to be able to have an opportunity to gain back a bit of normalcy and plan a new experience, following the whirlwind of the year 2020 has been.

Students were tasked with planning and leading the adventure, which was awesome to see them demonstrating organisation and initiative. Students led the way, using buses and trams to get us to the Melbourne Star Observation wheel. It was a scorcher of a day, so we were very impressed by DSC students resilience and positive attitude. While in the city, we learnt that the Melbourne Star is the only giant observation wheel in the Southern Hemisphere. It was amazing to observe a 360-degree view of Melbourne’s CBD, with views of Port Phillip, Mount Macedon and the Dandenong Ranges in the distance. It was refreshing to see the bustling streets of Melbourne below us, directly contrasting with the experiences of isolation we have endured over the past months. Thank you to DSC Year 9 students and staff for welcoming us on your adventure, it was lovely to get to know you and see you represent the school so well. We wish you well with all future adventures!
