Doncaster Secondary College is proud to be a Lead School promoting the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships Initiative. This initiative recognises that gender inequality and stereotypes lie at the heart of family violence and that therefore the way to promote real and effective cultural change is when positive attitudes and behaviours reflecting equality are lived across the school community.

As a society, we have become accustomed to numerous sexist gender norms, practices, leaving women facing structural inequality and inequality in their relationships. While violence occurs in all communities, to all genders, a disproportionate level of violence is enacted towards women- often by someone they know and trust, and often in their own home.

The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is a campaign to challenge violence against women and girls. Each year from November 25th, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to December 10th, Human Rights Day the campaign is run globally. More information about this campaign can be found here.

Students from Respectful Relationships schools in the Inner Eastern Metro area, like our school, are invited to play their part by submitting an entry to the Respectful Relationships Poster Competition.

I encourage our students to enter and show their commitment to the belief that everyone in our school community deserves to be respected, valued and treated equally.
