Music Matters

Latest Music News

As more and more restrictions are lifted, we are hearing music again around the school which is wonderful! The great news we received this week is that we can now have unlimited numbers of woodwind and brass players playing outside. Still, only five may play indoors but this is a huge improvement on what we’ve had to cope with this year.

Concert Band resumed rehearsals this week with Mr Rowlands on Tuesday after school. With our large folding door open they were able to split into small groups inside and outside the Music Centre and play together for the first time since term one. The band members have been extremely patient and are be commended on how they have kept their skills and enthusiasm up. They sounded fantastic and they all seemed to be pretty excited to be back.

Junior Jazz and Senior Jazz have combined over the last couple of weeks while the year 11 and 12s have been away doing exams. This has given the Junior Jazz kids a chance to play with more experienced players and prepare for their possible promotion to Senior Jazz next year. Students have worked on developing grooves and their sense of pulse. There were some very funky sounds coming out of the Performance Centre on Tuesday afternoon. Particularly form the guitars and trombones. Anyone interested in joining the Junior or Senior Jazz bands next year, should come along to rehearsal next Tuesday and have a play. It’s open to anyone who plays the Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Keyboard, Guitar, Bass and Drums.

Rock bands from the rock program are all rehearsing madly for their first live performances of the year at the Middle School presentation day next Friday 4th December. It will be so good to hear the new bands of this year finally getting to play together in front of an audience.

String works are performing a piece called “Hoedown” and String Orchestra are performing one of Mr Dillon’s own compositions “The Riders”.
