LIBRARY

Following the retirement of Mrs Sue Graffen at the end of 2020, I am delighted to have the opportunity to return to the Dr Ian Grant Library and join dedicated staff members, Mrs Sherry Bartlett and Mrs Emma Addison. We sincerely welcome both the Junior and Senior Schools to the Library in 2021.

The Library is open from 8:30am - 4:30pm daily and students are welcome throughout the day, including recess and lunch. On Wednesday afternoons we offer Homework Help from 3:30pm - 4:30 pm, where Senior School students (Years 7-12) can focus on their homework and assessment tasks and receive support from various members of the teaching staff if required.

We are very fortunate at the College to have such a spacious and well-equipped Library for the use of staff and students. Our physical collection has developed over the past years and access to a variety of resources through the e-Library, including e-books, audiobooks, newspapers, and magazines provides excellent access for our users, wherever they may be. We look forward to further building our collection to incorporate additional Junior School resources and materials.

This fortnight students in Years 7-10 English classes were introduced to (or reminded of) the means of accessing the Library homepage, catalogue, and e-Library. They then had the opportunity to borrow books, either from the physical collection or the e-Library. Students are reminded that e-resources can be accessed by using their college email address as the User ID and TRACebooks17 as the password.

We also welcomed Mr King’s Year 5 class, who were polite and enthusiastic visitors, and took the opportunity to find books of their own choosing to take back to their classroom.  We look forward to other Junior School visitors in the upcoming weeks.

I have been pleased to see Year 11 and 12 students effectively utilise their study periods in the Library this week, as well as a range of students making good use of this study space, during lunch breaks in particular. At the same time, other students have demonstrated respectful use of the Library, as they socialised during break times, including members of Book Club 2021, who met for the first time this term on Tuesday.

The Library staff are keen to provide service to all members of the College community and look forward to seeing you soon!
