Principal's Report

Dear Parents, Families and Community members,

This will be our final Newsletter of the Year and there is quite a bit to share and celebrate in this addition alone.

Please be aware that this Thursday we will have our first 'Live Assembly' in a long time and this will be a chance to celebrate 'the year that was', with a number of presentations and awards on display.

We will endeavour to 'stream' the assembly live to families so no one misses out, as current restrictions still prevent us from having parents and carers onsite, on mass.

In so many ways it is hard to believe that the school year is nearly over. We will always remember 2020 for so many reasons, but I hope like myself, our community can reflect on the ability of students, families and staff being able to accept and overcome every challenge or obstacle put in front of us and the success that has been achieved.

Our experiences in 2020 have only made us stronger and closer as a Community and I already can't wait for 2021 and continuing on where we are leaving off.

Reports

End of Semester Reports have been released on Friday. Please refer to the 'End of Semester Reports' page further on in this Newsletter for further details explaining how to interpret your child’s report.

A School Report is a great chance to review and celebrate the growth and achievement of each child and their learning. I encourage every family to spend some time with their child discussing their report and focusing on at least a couple of 'learning celebrations'.  All students at Armstrong Creek School should be proud of their achievements in 2020!

A reminder for families of students leaving Armstrong Creek School at the end of 2020 to please ensure that you download your child\ren’s Student Reports before Friday 18/12/2020. You won’t be able to access Compass after this date once the student has been exited from our school systems.

Please contact the office if you have any questions.

Student Excellence Program Year 3-6

This term we have been participating in our schools first Student Excellence Program.

We have been exploring characters in texts and looking at who we would be as a character. We have looked at both the inside and outside features of characters, including their emotions, actions and the language they use. We also worked on our Maths skills by exploring some coding and creating characters on Sketch.

The group are now creating characters to represent our school values of Care, Commitment and Collaboration by looking at the expectations of each school value and developing a character that represents this through the way they look, how they act and the things they say.

Our end goal is to create a virtual tour of the school that will include our Care, Commitment and Collaboration characters. The group will be writing scripts for our characters to read that will be letting people know about all the wonderful things we do at Armstrong Creek School. We will be working on our fluency as we practise reading the scripts. We are looking forward to sharing our work with everyone at the end of term.

Grade 2 Reading Extension Group

This week a small group of Year 2 students performed a recital to an audience of staff and family members, celebrating the culmination of a term's worth of a reading extension program held here at school.

Riley, Marley, Lilly, Florence, Kieran, Harper and Enjay have been working overtime in term 4, meeting with Kathryn before school every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and working on further developing their fluency and comprehension skills in reading. As part of their work, the group decided to perform a poem by learning it off by heart and reciting it to an audience.

After such a successful pilot program, extension groups like this will be seen more and more at Armstrong Creek School as we continue to develop and ensure we are catering to all students.

Well done team!

Mango Fundraiser

Thank you to everyone who participated in our PACC Mango Fundraiser!

122 boxes have now been collected and hopefully are being made into some of the delicious recipes supplied by one of our very thoughtful parents!

A big “Thank You”  goes out to our PACC team and members of our school community who volunteered to sort, label and organise our “drive thru” mango collection!
