A Challenging Year

As we finish this most bizarre and challenging year we wish everyone a safe and holy holiday break from all at Mazenod Sport. It has certainly been a year which no-one could prepare for and we have been impressed by the resilience of the student body. We have all missed our sport and we look forward to competing again as normal in 2021.

Like all competitions, we have very little to talk about for 2020. We do acknowledge our tennis, volleyball and senior cricket teams who had qualified for Grand Finals before they were abandoned. We thank our swimmers who competed so well at MSAC in late March.

It is noted that our Year 12 students missed the opportunity to represent the college for the last time and the Year 7 students missed the chance to represent Mazenod for the first time!

2021 will hopefully provide us with the opportunity to compete again in the many sports we have on offer.

ACC Carnival Changes 2021

There are some significant changes to the ACC Calendar for the dates of the major carnivals. We are still waiting on Government guidelines for large events and how we can run them safely for all.

For 2021, the ACC Athletics and Swimming Carnivals have changed places on a trial basis.  Due to clashes with other major events, the ACC Athletics Carnival will run on Thursday 25th February at Lakeside from 10am-4pm.  The ACC Swimming Carnival has now been transferred to later in the term to Wednesday 31st March at MSAC from 5pm -9pm.  This will be trialled for a few years and then feedback will be assessed.  We hope this change will give every student the opportunity to compete.

House Sport Challenge

What a finish we have on our hands to the House Sport competition. Anthony has hit the lead again by a solitary point and we have one week remaining! Can Grandin stage a big comeback in the final week, or will Anthony rally the troops and hold onto the lead and be crowned Term 4 House Sport Challenge Winners. Or could there be another House who makes a final push for glory? It makes for an exciting finish to the competition.

Term 1 Sport - 2021

As we prepare for the new year, we are hoping that sport will run as per normal in 2021. Students will soon be given an access code to make their sports selections for next year, just as they have done for subject selections. The students will see there are a number of ACC Sports to register their interest in.  They will also need to choose three sports they would like to take part in for each term. It is very important this is done ASAP as we have number quotas and therefore some students may miss out on their preferred options. From these lists, sports will be generated and then available on the student's timetable. The students are asked to make selections for the whole year. There will be opportunities to make changes during the year. We look forward to working with the students in 2021.

Sunsmart

As students prepare for a return to 2021 classes and sport we ask them and you to prepare for outside activities. As we know, UV sunlight does not take a rest in all conditions and we are always reminding students to bring a hat and to apply sunscreen. It is preferable that students bring their Mazenod cap or bucket hat but we will also allow any sports cap. We would like to see all students in outside activities with a cap on.
