Are you going to university in 2021? You’ll need a USI

If you’re going to university in 2021, it is now compulsory for you to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). You must have a USI to be eligible for Commonwealth assistance when studying, such as access to Commonwealth Supported Places (CSPs) and a HELP loan.

If you have done any VET or TAFE study in the past as part of your VCE or VCAL, you may already have a USI. If not, it’s completely free to create one, and it stays with you for life.

Find out more about the change and how you can apply for a USI here: https://www.usi.gov.au/higher-education

WORK EXPERIENCE 2021

Last week, all Year 9 students completed the Safe at Work Occupational Health & Safety training here at the College as first steps towards preparing for work experience in 2021. The students are to be congratulated on their efforts. It was very pleasing to see our young men receive their certification and noting their enthusiasm for work experience next year as part of Year 10.

I wish to remind students and parents about the importance of seeking work experience early. With the uncertainty of Covid-19 and the requirement of Covid-Safe procedures in workplaces, many employers may be reluctant to take on a work experience student. Starting the search early can help ensure that our students meet the deadline of returning paperwork to the College in the New Year by the end of term 1. Often the best place to start the search for work experience is through existing family and friend networks.

Work experience dates are Tuesday 15th – Friday 18th June 2021 (4 day placement). Please note, Monday 14th June is a public holiday.

All paperwork pertaining to work experience was emailed to Year 9 parents (2020) on Monday 16th November 2020. If you are unable to locate this email, you can access the required work experience forms on the Mazenod College Careers Website. Click on the large red button and download the documents that you need. Forms may be emailed to employers or printed and taken in person.

Best of luck in your search for work experience and all the best for a wonderful Christmas and New Year.

Ms Vivian Seremetis
