Principal's Post

Dear Parents,
During this week the National Chess Championships were conducted online. Five states and territories were represented as well as teams from New Zealand. Our Senior Team were Runners Up to Perth Modern School and our Junior Team finished third. Extraordinary results and the depth of talent is the key to the College’s continued success. It was also very pleasing to see so many Year 7 students excel in the competition.
We were notified this week that the presentations for the Premier's Awards have been cancelled. Mazenod had three students who won Premiers Awards last year. Sam Warner won a High Achievement Award in the Top All-Rounder Category. He was one of the twenty-eight students across the State who was acknowledged with this award. Jordan Bassilious was one of twenty students who received a Premier’s Award for English and Sean Ng was one of three students who won the award in Computing: Software Development. Congratulations.
Our Year 8 and 9 Scholarship recipients were also acknowledged this week. The scholarships are for Academic Excellence in Year 8 and for Excellence in Science in Year 9. Four scholarships are offered each year in Year 8 and two for Year 9. There are also two scholarships for students in Year 10 for Academic Excellence.
Congratulations to: Year 9 Science Scholarship Recipients -

We received a letter of appreciation from the St Vincent de Paul Society for the donations that were collected and delivered in recent weeks.
Twenty-five boxes and twenty-five shopping bags were delivered to support families in our community. Thank you to the students, staff and families for their generosity.
Father John Sherman OMI has served the Mazenod College Community for 25 years in the capacity of Provincial, Rector, Bursar, Teacher and Chaplain. Father John is moving to Queensland to work in the Parish of St Eugene’s in Burpengary. His inspirational witness to both the students and to the staff has been amazing and his energy and optimism are infectious, he will be sadly missed. Thank you, Father John, for all that you have done and for reminding us that Eucharist is the heart of who we are and why the College exists.
Finally, thank you once again for your support and patience in a year that has been very challenging. The cooperation of our students, the dedication of our staff and the support of our parents have ensured we have not only survived 2020 but have grown in so many ways. I wish your families a Holy and Happy Christmas and look forward to 2021 with the great anticipation that we can enjoy the many excursions and activities that typify the conventional Mazenod calendar.
Yours sincerely,
Mr Tony Coghlan
