Foundation:

The students are going to be introduced to the Japanese culture and language. They are going to compare this new language with the language they speak at home. Foundation students may realise that they already know quite a bit of Japan. They are also starting to communicate with basic greetings in Japanese and learn the ways to address others respectfully.

Grade1/2

In the first two weeks, Grade 1 and 2 students are going to revise the basic Japanese phrases and think about their language ‘super-powers’ they already have. Then they are to set a meaningful goal for term one as well as decorating their Japanese book cover.

Grade 3/4

Grade 3 and 4 students are going to engage in the ice-breaker activity called ‘Find someone who…’ BINGO. They might realise that they have already acquired a lot of skills and knowledge about Japan through this activity. This will help the students to set a clear goal for the term.

Grade 5/6

The students in grade 5 and 6 will engage in a fun pre-test activity to revise the basics and celebrate their learning. They are going to rethink about the benefits of a multilingual brain and strategies to improve their language learning to set a goal for this term.
