Grade 2 Fortnightly Snapshot

Term 4 Week 10

Updates

Dear Parents,

We are nearing the end of the year. This Tuesday, 8th of December is Orientation Day. In the afternoon block, students will meet their teacher and find out their classroom for next year.

On the final Thursday of term, the 17th of December, we will have our Grade 2 Extended Day. We're lucky that restrictions have relaxed enough for us to hire an outside provider, Proactivity, to run this event. There will be an inflatable earth ball, team games, hip hop dancing and circus skills, followed by pizza for dinner. We hope that all students can attend to celebrate the end of our year!

Reading

Students have been developing their researching skills by recording notes and considering their own opinions on topics. They have also been identifying facts and opinions and agreeing or disagreeing with statements.

Writing

Students are working on persuasive letters. They are consolidating what they have learnt about persuasive texts, which includes stating their opinion in an opening statement, giving reasons backed up with evidence to support their opinions and finishing off with a closing statement. They have learnt about conjunctions to link their ideas in sentences and using persuasive language.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, students have been learning about chance as well as 2D and 3D shapes. Students are learning to use chance language of impossible, unlikely, likely, certain and even chance and describe the chance of events happening. They are learning to describe the features of 2D and 3D shapes as well as learn about the transformations of flip, slide and turn.

Unit of Inquiry

Students have been learning about places in their community. They have considered which places should be preserved or changed and why. Students have learnt to support their opinions with reasons. They are sharing these opinions through our reading and writing.

Thank you

Thank you for your support in helping the children reach their potential this year. We are thrilled with the effort and progress they have made.
