Student / Parent / Guardian / Teacher Conferences

Thursday 4 April 1 pm – 7:30 pm

Student / Parent / Guardian / Teacher Conferences are of great importance for all students and their families as it assists in the establishment of routines and practices that will impact on student performance in the end of semester assessments. Regardless of the Year Level that a student is in, there is strong evidence that clearly shows where a family of a student is actively involved in their education, the student will enjoy greater success in their learning outcomes.

Despite what they might say publicly, all students need to feel the confidence that they are supported both at school and at home.  Where there is a strong partnership between the student, their family and their teachers, a student will be encouraged knowing that those around them are all “on the same page” when it comes to their learning.

All parents want their child to reach their potential, they want them to succeed and enjoy a fulfilling future and therefore they recognise the importance of the students attending and doing well at school.

Student / Parent / Guardian / Teacher Conferences are an important part of this process as they permit discussion and feedback on what has been achieved and just as importantly how and where further improvement can be made between now and the final assessments. Teachers have the role of being the coach and developing a plan for students to achieve.  These Conferences are when families can attend and better understand that plan and how it can best be achieved.

Please note:

Students DO NOT ATTEND school on this day for regular classes. Instead they are required to attend the conferences with a parent / guardian in FULL SCHOOL UNIFORM.

High Achievers Assembly

On Monday 11 February we were lucky enough to be able to have a couple of our High Achievers from the class of 2018 come and speak to our community.  This was a great occasion where we celebrated the achievements of those aspiring for great results.  We welcomed back Abbey Short and Holly May.  Unfortunately the Dux of 2018, Jessica Saunders, was unable to attend due to University commitments.  Adam Lawler, Olivia Parsons and Ben Dowler were also unable to attend due to work and holiday commitments.

We celebrated the fact that the class of 2018 and their teachers have been recognized for the highest VCE growth in Victoria in 2018. We also had the majority of students applying for tertiary places  offered their first preference in the first round offers with many of them receiving an offer from their first or second preference.  We also acknowledged our VCAL students will all of them gaining an apprenticeship, traineeship or full time employment. These are great results and we are very proud.

Although Jessica was unable to be with us on the morning we celebrated her outstanding achievement. She has accepted a place at The University of Melbourne with a scholarship, where she will undertake a course in Commerce.

Adam Lawler consistently sought  feedback from his teachers to work on areas for improvement. He has been accepted into Business at Deakin University.

Olivia Parsons had an attendance rate of 100% in 2018 and gave herself the best possible chance of achieving her best. With such commitment it is not surprising that she received a great ATAR result. She has been accepted in a Science Course at Deakin University.

Ben Dowler also achieved a strong ATAR. He has accepted an offer in Public Health at Monash University; which I’m sure he will be great at. On the day of the assembly we was enjoying a well-deserved rest at the theme parks in Queensland.

For our special guests we heard that:

Abbey Short was a quiet achiever throughout her schooling. She went about her business and worked well throughout the year and was a consistent performer over the years.  She has taken up an Interior Design at RMIT.

Holly May has been fantastic in her dedication to her studies as well as making the most of the opportunities offered to her at this school. She was actively involved in student voice and was a College Captain as well as a member of the Student Representative Council.

We wish each of our High Achievers a lot along with all of the members of the class of 2018 all the best for their future endeavours.  I’m sure what you have learned during your time at Scoresby Secondary College will hold you in good stead.

Everyday Matters – The Importance of Attendance

We all want our students to receive a great education.  The start of a great education starts with students attending school on time every day.

Students who attend school regularly develop good habits that are necessary for success during school and beyond school; whether in the workplace or in further education.

Missing school can have a massive impact on an individual – academically, socially and mentally. It can affect a student’s ability to achieve success in assessment tasks as well as impact negatively on relationships with other students and can lead to social isolation etc.

Students learn new things at school everyday and everyday they are away they miss important information and can fall behind their peers. For some students the thought of catching up on work and learning can become too difficult.

In 2018, there were 17 students (7% of the school) who attended every school day.  Students who can display great commitment towards their studies will be able to use this to demonstrate commitment for future endeavors.
