Principal's News

MARK ROBERTSON

Principal

In this last edition of Grammar News for the 2018 School year, our theme ‘All You Can Be’ has encapsulated the wonderful spirit and ambition of all within our School Community.

Awards Presentation Evening

Tonight we have the opportunity to celebrate with students, staff and parents in recognising and reflecting on the outstanding effort and achievement of our students, from Year 4 to Year 11. This evening will highlight our great talent through dance, music and the arts, demonstrating the strength of our diverse Community.  We will also announce the appointment of the incoming School Captains and Leaders for the 2019 School year.

Parents Association

I wish to take this opportunity to extend our gratitude to our Parents Association led by Co-Presidents Rob Keoylian and Helen Bauzon. Although there has been a small committee, the work undertaken during this year has been very much appreciated, and was focused on building community and fund raising. The funds raised ultimately benefit our students, and of note was an upgrade to our audio-visual equipment in our Assembly & Conference Centre, which is already making a big impact. I wish to thank Helen Bauzon, who is stepping down as Co-President, and wish to acknowledge her outstanding contribution, particularly in relation to the 35th Gala Ball.  We look forward to a successful year for the Parents Association and congratulate our 2019 Parents Association Committee comprising of:

Co-Presidents – Mr Robert Keoylian and Mr John Dellis

Treasurer – Ms Penny Tounoussidis

Secretary – Mr Theodore Xenos

Committee – Ms Julie Clark, Mr Rogier Roelvink, Ms Maree Ziakas, Mr George Midas, Ms Fotini Gurfinkel, Ms Kanella Stevens, Ms Kaela Ontong – Oakleigh Grammar Liaison

Car Parking

In recent months our School has been working with the Monash City Council, where design concepts have been produced which will extend parking options by another 30+ car spots along Clapham Road. Whilst our School is funding this project, the Monash City Council has supported this project with the knowledge that it will assist in relieving congestion.  It is anticipated that this project is completed during this holiday period.

Staff

At Oakleigh Grammar our staff retention rate is very high, and well above the Independent School average. I take this opportunity to wish our staff who will be leaving us at the end of this year good health and happiness for the future, and thank them for their significant contribution to Oakleigh Grammar:

Ms Virginia Varney, Junior School

Ms Sophie Angelis, Orthodox Studies

Ms Catherine Sheahan, Learning Assistant

Ms Amy White, ELC Teacher

Ms Katherine Zoraya, Arrowsmith Teacher

Mr Vince Falzarano, Woodwork Teacher

As we enter the most joyous time of the calendar year I wish all families a safe, happy and blessed Christmas and New Year.

May the Blessings of Christmas be with you

May the child light your wings

May God’s holy angels guide you, and

Keep you safe each day and always.
