LAP News
It’s the end of another successful term. Thanks to all who have volunteered within the school. Your support is always appreciated and valued.
How to Engage Children Who Learn Differently
This was the topic for all who attended a recent workshop put on by the LAP Association for mentors within schools. The speaker Julie Tannebring shared her passion and years of experience as a teacher. Giving wonderful suggestions, thought provoking ideas and proving science is a subject most can be fascinated by, even when you’re older.
Bereavement
On a sadder note, earlier this term Penny Penhall, one of the founders of the LAP Programme passed away suddenly. We would like to take the opportunity to acknowledge her outstanding contribution to mentoring in education.

Under 12 Soccer
With numbers a bit short in the older age groups we combined Under 11 and 12 together to make a team. Given that over half the team were playing up an age group we had a very successful season. The team made it past the group stage of the cup competition and were knocked out in the next round. In the second half of the season our league form was very good, coming into the final match only a goal difference separated us and the other undefeated team. In a final round match to decide the league, we were out played by a quality team. League runners up was a fair reward for the season. In all competitions our record was: played 13, won 9, lost 4, goals for 67, goals against 29. Hunter receives the Golden Boot award for leading scorer - 22 goals.

Seniors Soccer
With a shortage of Year 7 players we had to recruit some players from LeFevre Primary to form a team. The season was a challenge but the small but committed core group battled away all season. Having enough players on game day was a constant problem but those who stuck with it for the enjoyment are to be commended. Erin should be recognised for her outstanding season, she made the NWJSA girls team and represented the Port SAPSASA District team.
In the words of team manager Jaqui Larkin “It was better to have played and lost than never to have played at all.” Thanks to Jaqui and Dave Kirner for getting the team on the park each week.
Under 9 Soccer
My Friends all laughed at me when I said I was share coaching my son’s soccer team, but I soon wiped the smiles off their faces, when I mentioned that we only lost one game and had a draw twice. The players always did their best, with some exuding a wonderful natural and love for the game.
I am so proud of our team, we always kept up appearances with a smile and a terrific attitude. Thank you to Martin Box, Kylie Baker, Peter Rollond and all the other parents and grandparents for your support and of course “The Team”.

Under 6 White Soccer
The kids had a great season. Most will stay on to play next year. The players all did a fantastic job for their first year at soccer. Fraser and Sailor were our goal kickers and scored a heap of goals, helping us to win the majority of our games. Ethan and Kylam were always trying their very hardest and really started to enjoy playing. Our most improved player for the year was Max. Max improved every week and really enjoyed his soccer and listened to all the instructions on the field.

Under 8 Soccer
Largs Bay U8 soccer team started the 2015 season slowly. New up and coming players were finding their kicks and learning the strategic game. This young team played every game with incredible determination, facing a run of early losses with dignity and a growing sense of hunger. The training and effort payed off in game 6 when the team gained their first victory. The kids were so surprised but this was only the first. Once they had this taste for winning, their determination grew. The second half of the season included a run of closely fought wins culminating in two final victories at the Carnival. Well done under 8's, every one of you deserved your medals.

Netball
Monday night was the last game for many of the teams in the after school netball competition. Some teams have chosen to continue throughout term 4. Special thanks to the parents who have supported the netball competition through coaching and managing. The teams have really improved and many players have chosen to join the local netball competition.
Largs Bay Environment Officers
The four Largs Bay environment officers attended a meeting in the city regarding the Adelaide Bird Sanctuary on the 11th of September. This sanctuary is being set up so that we can protect the migratory birds that fly from as far away as Russia to the shores around St Kilda. The environment officers are planning some lunchtime activities for Week 3 of next term especially for those in Junior Primary. More announcements to come soon.
UNSW English Competition
