Subject Selection Update
Term 3 has so far been focussed on providing students and caregivers with information about subject selection and pathways. On behalf of the College I would like to thank all parents and carers for your interest in and commitment to your son’s education. All online selections will be finalised by 12 August and students will be notified of their selections in Term 4.
Assessment, Feedback & Reporting
The first year of the St Bede’s College Active Feedback, Assessment and Reporting system in Years 7-10 and VCAL has begun well, though not without some minor setbacks. During the course of Semester 1 we discovered and were able to mitigate most of these. Given the scope of these improvements, we will continue to develop and refine our procedures in the next twelve months. The new system is based on the research of John Hattie, Dylan Wiliam and Robert Marzano, well respected and experienced educators as well as researchers. The main points underlying the development of Active Assessment, Feedback and Reporting are:
- Students should have a clear idea of what the intended learning outcomes are in each subject.
- Assessment is not an ‘end of unit’ activity to see what students have learned, but is a continuous activity to measure understanding.
- An effective school is one which has a guaranteed curriculum – that is, that content and skills available to one should be available to all.
Staff Professional Learning
During this first year of implementation we have become aware of the need for Professional Learning on a more regular basis. We have wonderful teachers at St Bede’s College and we want to ensure that they keep abreast of the latest in educational thinking. During Term 2 the Leadership Team put forth a proposal to all staff to embed Professional Learning into the College timetable. At present we are discussing the feedback from teaching staff. In due course parents and carers will be informed of the outcome.
Parent Teacher Interviews
A reminder to all parents and carers that Parent Teacher Interviews are an important part of our reporting process. These interviews are for students in Years 7-12 and will take place over three afternoons/evenings on August 16, 22 and 25. Bookings will be available soon. There will be a student free day on Friday 26 August.
PAM Uploads
The Semester 2 PAM uploads are on Monday 15 August, Monday 17 October and Monday 28 November.
Unit 3 & 4 Trial Exams
Trial exams for all Unit 3 & 4 subjects will take place during the second week of the Term 3 holidays. All students have been notified. Bookings will be available in Week 7.
