Year 9 General Excellence Scholarship

Recently, the young men in Year Nine were emailed a letter outlining the General Excellence Scholarship available to students currently enrolled in Year Nine.

The scholarship covers 30% of tuition fees at St Bede’s College for Years 10, 11 and 12.  There are four scholarships to be awarded.

The scholarships cover General Excellence in College activities, with the emphasis on students who are doing their best in all facets of College life, not just academically.

Questions on the scholarship application include academic results to date, including Semester 1 this year, extra – curricular involvement (non-compulsory activities) over Years 7, 8 and 9, & how you may contribute purposefully to College life in Years 10, 11 and 12.  Students must also supply a character reference; the reference must not be written by a current staff member.

All students will be emailed the application form the week beginning Monday 12 September, it will be due back the end of the 3rd week, Term 4, Friday 21 October

Please take the time to discuss the scholarship with your son.

Thank you for your support.

Child Safe Schools

The Victorian Government, in response to the Betrayal of Trust report (Parliament of Victoria, Family & Community Development Committee 2013), has introduced seven minimum Child Safe Standards into law to ensure that Child Safety is at the forefront of all organisations that work with children.  Ministerial Order No. 870 (State of Victoria, Department of Education & Training 2016) specifies the actions schools will be required to take against each standard to manage the risk of child abuse in schools.

The key message in implementing the standards in Catholic Schools is:

  • Catholic schools are places where the sacred dignity of each person is recognised, respected and fostered
  • Catholic schools are places where young people feel safe and in reality are safe
  • Catholic schools take an integrated and collaborative approach to building and strengthening safe and respectful school communities
  • Children and young people in Catholic Schools are aware of their right to be safe, are empowered to have a voice about safety and know how to raise concern

To address certain aspects of the Minimum Standards, St Bede’s College has developed two policies; namely

  • Child Safety Policy and
  • Child Safety Code of Conduct Policy

Both policies demonstrate the strong commitment of St Bede’s College to the care, safety and wellbeing of all students at our College.

All families are encouraged to read through the policies with their son and if anyone has any concerns at all they can contact their son’s relevant Coordinator.
