Around the School

Welcome

We love to celebrate our students and showcase what they have been up to, both inside and outside the classroom! Below are a few things that happened over the last two weeks.

Mother's Day

Students were treated to some special visitors Thursday morning in their classrooms!

They were excited to spend time with their Mum, Grandma and other significant family members with crafts, games and plenty of relaxation and pampering happening in the Kinder classrooms.

We were also entertained by the Jnr Singers and Jnr Drumline over morning tea.

Thank you to all those who visited and to the dedicated teachers for the fun activities.

THAC visits MAG

On Thursday 2 May, we welcomed Thomas Hassall Anglican College’s music ensembles and staff, who were visiting as part of their music tour.

In Term 1, we began planning towards a music collaboration between the ensembles of THAC (their Senior Vocal Ensemble and Stage Band), as well as a number of our MAG ensembles (MAG Singers, the Jazz Ensemble and the Snr. Drumline).

After discussing what items we could work on to perform together in the concert, MAG and THAC ensembles rehearsed in their own time, before coming together for a one-hour workshop and rehearsal on the afternoon of the concert!

The concert was a huge success and included a variety of items, with a focus on jazz:

THAC Vocal Ensemble performed -

Kitchen sink

Isn't she lovely

THAC Stage Band performed –

Flamingo

My Funny Valentine

Lingus

MAG Singers performed –

Africa

Seasons of Love

MAG Jazz Ensemble performed –

Watermelon Man

Cantaloupe Island

THAC and MAG ensembles performed –

Blues in the Closet

Don't Mean A Thing

And our Snr Drumline joined all ensembles for a finale performance of ‘Beat It’.

We would especially like to thank our co-curricular tutors, Kevin Kiely and Victoria Pannett, who prepared ensemble students for this special event.

The concert was a fabulous experience for students involved to collaborate and further develop their musicianship, and we look forward to future opportunities like this.

Morning Training

Students from Year 4-11 have been enjoying morning training on Tuesday and Thursday morning before school starts, from 7.45am.

With circuit training including rope climbing, exercise bikes, rings, chin ups, skipping and other floor routines.

If you would like more information, please see Mr. Greg Cadd.

Primary Music

Primary Boy Rock Band students Harrison Moller, Stirling Wakefield, Nate Pearce and Brady McInnis had their first performance at Primary Assembly this week performing "Zombie" by the Cranberries. The boys did a fantastic job and we look forward to seeing them perform again in the future.

VET Tourism excursion

On Wednesday our Year 10 VET Tourism students visited Echuca businesses to gain a better understanding of tourism in the area.

As part of their studies, they took part in a guided tour at the Port Of Echuca Discovery Centre, explored the Echuca Moama Tourism Information Centre and visited surrounding motels.

Art Club

Art club has started again in 2019 for students from Year 3-6 🎨👩‍🎨👨‍🎨

They had a fantastic time Monday afternoon making foam prints of insects by tracing an image and carving it into a foam block, these were then rolled with paint and used for printing.

Careers week

Careers week was a great success with plenty of activities around the school, as well as some great information presented on our facebook page.

On Wednesday we had Leading Senior Constable Bernadette Brooks and Paramedic Joanne Kerr visit us for our Lights and Sirens lunch as part of our National Careers Week Australia activities.

Students were able to ask questions about the professions, the career path and what a day in the life of an emergency worker looks like. They were also able to explore inside the Ambulance which the primary students thought was a real treat!

GRIP leadership day

Primary School Student Leaders participated in the annual GRIP Leadership Conference in Shepparton at the beginning of May.  The purpose of the conference was for Year 6 leaders to develop their leadership skills and leave with a clear vision, a solid understanding and plenty of ideas for the year ahead. Students thouroughly enjoyed their time, especially the fun games they played at the end of each activity.

One & All

On Friday 10 May we celebrated One & All Inclusion Day, where we wore orange to recognise and celebrate inclusion in the Echuca Moama community. Students had a wonderful time finding as many orange garments as they could to wear to school.  The spirit of inclusion was certainly high when it came to photo time!

Bright and instantly recognised, orange is the official colour of the the One & All Inclusion Project – a ground-breaking initiative shaping a collective community stance that values all walks of life and abilities and embraces ‘inclusion’ for all.

Rostrum Voice of Youth

The Rostrum Public Speaking competition entails a 6-minute or 8-minute prepared speech depending on the age group. As well as a 2-minute impromptu speech with fifteen minutes to prepare. Four Students from Moama Anglican Grammar participated in this competition on Saturday 11 May. These students were Alysha Toohill, Mia Oberin, Naomi Hughes and Isabelle Williams. Alysha competed in the Juniors section and spoke for 6 minutes about 'being a part of the discussion regarding equality'. Mia spoke about 'how women are suppressing their anger and how that needs to change', Naomi spoke on the topic of a 'modern epidemic and how climate change is a pressing epidemic'. Isabelle spoke about 'Lyme disease and the importance of awareness'. All of the speakers did well in both their prepared and impromptu speeches with Mia Oberin taking first place and Isabelle Williams placing runners up. Once again, congratulations to all who competed.
