Year 7 Science

An eager group of Year 7 students have quickly got into the mood of thinking and performing as junior “Scientists".

They have started learning the names of the various pieces of equipment that they will be using, as they perform experiments over the coming year.

They have also been looking at the safe use of Bunsen Burners, which will be used this term.

The group photo below, has the class decked out in lab coats and safety glasses, as they learn about the safety aspects of a Science Room and the correct use of a Bunsen Burner.

The Cave

After a successful practical session in Room 44, Year 8 SEAL students, booked into the CAVE to finalise and write their 'Teddies/Cheezels with Energy' practical report.

Collaboration was the key word of the session, as the students jotted down their thoughts and observations on the whiteboard tables.

They were then able to discuss and re-word their original answers to obtain the most succinct answer, 21st century skills in action!

Year 8 SEAL students

Over the next two to three weeks, our wonderful Year 8 students in the Select Entry Program, will be working together in teams of four, to build a working model of a water wheel.

Last week, we started planning what is needed, researching what is out there and work shopping the designs.

Some students are using the program www.tinkercad.com  They learnt about this last year in the Tech Taster session; How to build 3D parts of a working model.

Other groups, are using more traditional materials to build their first prototypes.  I am super excited to see what they come up with.

Year 12 Biology

Last week, the Year 12 Biology classes have been learning about protein structure, why proteins form the shapes that they do and why these shapes are so important to the function of the protein.

Year 10 Science

The Year 10s have been learning about precipitation reactions, practising balancing equations and looking into the environmental impact we have, when we pour household products down the sink.
